1972 Low Mileage 240z on Ebay

Hello fellow enthusiasts. I was looking at some of the Z cars on Ebay this AM and I came across a 1972 vehicle being sold by Schmitt which is a fairly well known Classic Car Distributor. The auction strikes me as somewhat odd. The car is very nice and I suppose the reason I find it odd is that we rarely see cars like this being sold by places like Schmitt. Now I think it's good for all of us because if a Dealership like this has a car like this then what we know of the 240z and it's history helps the value of our cars. Schmitt does not take in cars that aren't excellent examples of specific makes and models. They want $20,000 for the car on a buy it now. Please comment on whether you think the price is accurate. Should it go for more or less. Of course it's not a series one car but all in all it's very nice example of a 72. I would be interested in your impressions regarding this car. If it checks out during a personal physical inspection - it's worth every penney.. five years from now you won't be able to touch it for less than $35K

Anyone wanting an excellent example - and not wanting to spend $40K and three years doing a restoration themselves - this is the type of car to step up to.. if/when one comes on the open market.

This is an exceptionally nice car. It is rare to find one that appears to be in such good condition and low mileage. If you are considering this 240Z, then please take another look at my 1973 Z. I recently reduced the price from $20k to $17.5k. Either way, save yourself a lot of time, money, and frustration and get an original unmolested car. Thanks - John

Fresh car.. Wow. Its definetely on of the finest low mileage cars I have ever seen. I guess if didn't want a project car and wanted to end up with something cherry with no labor then its worth the price.

I think it is strange that they don't mention it has been repainted.....

How did you know it's a repaint. If it's a repaint I wonder about the mileage.

I asked them if it was. Here is the reply:

This is not the original paint job on this car, but let me tell you, they restored this car correctly. This was an original 918 color coded orange car. Attention to detail was put first in bringing this car to collector quality. At first glance there is no evidence at all that would assume a re-paint. Every angle of this car is incredible, engine seals, rubber molding, gaskets, window frames, fuel door, etc. has been carefully taken care of to insure satisfaction.

Hahahahaha That's too funny. But you know a car like this can have low mileage and still after 30 or more years need a paint job. Especially a car that sits around rusting a bit. These cars as you know didn't take much to rust even if they weren't driven. I would like to give it the benefit of the doubt. Of course I would ask them to provide some sort of proof. All in all it's a very nice car and probably is worth the money or more. It's a find. But I have learned my lesson in car buying and there would be no way I would buy it with out seeing it.

It looks nice and is a very beautiful car. If the sales manager said it was restored then great, but you have to look at who did the restore and what kind of a job was done to it. Is it worth 20k? For someone it is but what if it was to start bubbling on a kick panel in about 2 or 3 years. I would be very very upset.
