Slow death

Hey all,

An issue I've run into a few times is my Z just dying at idle. Starts fine, runs fine at any RPM level, but if it sits at idle it just slowly dies. It will fire right back again after it dies. No hard sputtering or anything like that either. Just a slow quiet night-night if you will. My initial thoughts would say fuel pump. That's why I asked about the electric pump in the other thread. Any thoughts o' wise ones?

If it runs fine at higher RPMs I don't see why the fuel pump wouldn't be fine at idle. It seems to me that a failing fuel pump or other fuel delivery (i.e., clogged filter) failure would cause the opposite problem. What is your idle speed? Can you keep it from stalling if you give it just a little gas?

Yeah, just tapping the accelerator keeps it alive.

Adjust your idle screw That might help. It sounds like its idling to low.

Agreed, sounds like it's just idling too low. If that isn't it another possibility is an idle mixture just a little too lean, either due to adjustment or to a small vacuum leak.
