Door key locks

Looking for some ideas on some blacked-out door key locks for my car. I am painting all of my trim and door handles black b ut not sure to do about the door locks. Did they have black door locks on early Z's ? I am contemplating powder coating the locks but don't know if that is a good solution. I don't believe paint will hold up to key scratches.

I'm a locksmith , and you can get replacement facecaps that have ''tangs'' on them . You remove the lock , peel the old cap , and replace , and yes, you can get black ones and stainless ones, your choice . Replace the gasket at this time as well . Good luck !:)

These locks are easily rebuildable; I took a pair of mis-matched locks and fixed

them to work on the same key. I've found that pre-90 Hyundai springs & pins

will fit in Z locks. as for the facecap, mine were just straightened and glued in place with 2-part epoxy . Done this 8 years ago and they are still holding & working well.

One way I have found to keep paint on old chromed surfaces is to apply an etch primer to it after sanding it a bit. Use something like 220 grit, as anything finer probably won't scratch the surface. And anything coarser would just be too much.

Of course, being cautious with ones keys helps, but can't always be accomplished.

I used this method on a Lincon MKIII years ago, and that baby is still holding up well.
