Duffman Posted June 2, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2007 My early Z has the plastic evap fuel tank and it has developed some hairline cracks in it:surprised . Is there any way of repairing this? The metal tank is too big and won't fit.Any thoughts? Thanks,Stephen
Arne Posted June 2, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 2, 2007 Assuming you want to keep the system intact (and there has been some discussion recently on the pros and cons of this), you'd need to find some sort of material that will bond and fuse to the existing plastic. I'm fairly certain that such a product probably exists, but identifying it may be difficult. If finding a suitable repair product proves to be too difficult, I have a spare plastic evap tank that appears to still be airtight. Came out of an Oregon car so hasn't been baked by the desert temps.
Mat M Posted June 3, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2007 the Home Depot carries a product, I cannot remember the name, that bonds plastic. It is written on the label that one of the uses is for comprimised gasoline tanks, so I believe an evap can would be just fine. I will go up to the barn and try to find the tube of the stuff I bought about 4 yrs ago.
Mat M Posted June 3, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 3, 2007 I apologize, but the cement to which I was referring, I can not find. I think I threw it out during my last move 2 yrs ago. Still, I am confident the HD carries a product that will suit your needs.
Duffman Posted June 3, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted June 3, 2007 Thanks, Mat, I will check into it before I look at getting a replacement plastic tank. Stephen
