What Literature to display at a show

When you take your Z to a car show, what would be some good literature to display?

I have the owner's manual, that stays in the glovebox, and I have several sections of the FSM (printed from the CD in B&W and bound.)

What about a repair manual, such as Haynes? Or a parts catalog, like MSA or BD? Would that be gauche?

I think a magazine that features your year and/or model Z would be nice. I suppose you could get a vintage magazine that features a Datsun 240, 260, or 280Z in it. :)

thx

TomoHawk,

Display what ever you are proud of, but verify whether or not it will be allowed in the car if you are having the car judged. For ZCCA events, only the Owners manual is allowed in the glove box. and all other displayed materials are to be on a display board...

I've always thought the old magazines, diecast car or ads that feature the car always looks kind of cool sitting next to the car. Also, a lot of the time people will have a booklet of photo album sitting next to the car that people can look at of the restoration or fix up that they did on it. Sometimes people can go a little crazy on it the stuff they bring to the shows, but a few old ads and magazines always seem to go along good with the car.

Since I go a number of local shows, I was asking for suggestions for what the secular people might like. Maybe I can find a magazine with a Z on the cover. :)

Hot girls? That sounds like the Tweeks catalog. ;)

Tomo,

You need to be very, very, VERY careful with items placed on show.

The general public is choc-a-block full of low down thieves.

At a recent show and shine, I discovered that some b*&$*&^%ard decided they liked a bag I had in the back of "Precious" more than I did. Fortunately, it was empty which was a good thing because if my thermos of coffee had still been in it I would have REALLY been upset.

To get to your question, I had both sides of the original brochure copied, framed it, adding a few pics of the stages of resurection, plus a short story on the history of "Precious".

People spend quite some time reading it, especially the tech data on the brochure. It saves me being asked a lot of questions I might not know the answer to. (Although, ... I suppose I could try faking an answer in the hope that the questioner won't know the truth).ROFL

A recent search on eBay turns up two popular magazine issues:

Jan 1975 road & track

Apr 1984 popular hot rodding

Is anyone familiar with those? I would think that the 1975 one is about the "new" 280Z and a test drive, and the 1984 one is about a modded one or probably something less relative, like a V8 police chase 280Z I read about spmewhere.

Are there any important magazines that you'd want to keep an eye out for besides the PHR one? What others had debuts or test drives about the 280Z?

What about some original dealer literature? Can you get any of that stuff?

Yes, I'm stll trying to find a magazine that'll be really interesting to have. Something that really says something great or unique about the Z :P

Tomohawk,

There are several books out that have collected the majority of the print ads, and some of the dealer literature. Brookland books put one out, and updated it as the Z evolved, there are over 100 articles(a few are in both versions that I have) complied from magazines, Even Car and Driver put out On Datsun Z its own article compilation book. There are more, these are the ones that I have off the top of my head.

Dealer stuf is always listed on ebay, if you want it and are willing to pay, or wait and watch, it is out there.

I think SportZ, Zcar Magazine or the other (I can't remember its name) Z based magazine are among the most interesting magazines to own, as they are dedicated solely to the Z. Some of the club newsletters are the most entertaining and informative as they are written from the worn in drivers seat instead of a few minutes with a press kit and a turn behind the wheel. Don't discount the value of Nissan Sport, Art is right there with us, he has one, and reacts to and interacts with it-that makes his work substantially more valuable than the "I just had to drive it" author.
