Posted July 30, 200222 yr comment_11640 OK, the more time I spend looking at this great website, posting gooffy questions and replies etc, the more Aussie members seem bob up. So far I think there are 4 of us in Perth (26ounce, Mr.Camoflage, Lee240zPerth and myself). Anyone else? If we know who we are we can all be collectively miserble about: a) the lack of decent Zs for sale withing a 2000km radius of Perth the lack of a spares/workshop for zs c)the fact that our U.S. cousins can pick and choose from the 60,000+ 240s that were imported to their land compared to the 2-3000 that came to Australia. But more to the point, we can share our hard won knowledge on z-survival downunder. If you're an Aussie, stand up and be counted! July 31, 200222 yr comment_11649 Cheer up, move to Melbourne and have access to parts & service! At least you've located 4 Perth members, Moderator Mike's visiting Melbourne and there has been silence from the local community. C'on Melbournites [fellow Victorians], lets hear from you and get together to welcome our overseas visitor. :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2453-hands-up-whos-in-perth-or-australia/#findComment-11649 Share on other sites
July 31, 200222 yr Author comment_11651 I'm a Melbourne-boy thru and thru but work brought me to Perth years ago. I'm now in the mode of 'miss Melb when in Perth', miss Perth when in Melb'... some people are never satisfied :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2453-hands-up-whos-in-perth-or-australia/#findComment-11651 Share on other sites
July 31, 200222 yr comment_11660 I'm glad you started this post halz. Being somewhat isolated out here in WA makes it important to share Z info and contacts. As for being miserable, I completely agree with your list of points. I was lucky to find a two seater so I have now progressed from (a) to (. Now the grim reality of my rpoject is starting to hit home. July 31, 200222 yr comment_11668 Hi all, I'm from Perth as well; I must say that the probability to find a zed for sale is close to zero (2 seaters). Most change hands before they even reach the public market place!!! (I chased down the owner of my first 240Z [which is my current project car] to ask beg to sell it to me)I'm lucky enough to have owned two 240Zs and two 260Zs (proper good cars not just parts cars) as well as my current project a '73 240Z fitted with an RB26DETT Skyline GTR engine (Godzilla).Parts are hard to get and hard on the wallet too, but alot of people forget that the prices for new parts for modern cars aren't any cheaper (eg doors and bonnets etc.)Perth crew, drop me a PM if you ever need some parts or assistance, I may just know someone that has them!Cuong Nguyen Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2453-hands-up-whos-in-perth-or-australia/#findComment-11668 Share on other sites
August 1, 200222 yr comment_11772 Hi Guys Good idea getting a circle of z owners to share knowledge of cars for sale, parts specialists etc. I too strugle to get certain parts, I had to obtain the last ones from Sydney and they took an age to get. I have been lucky with cars though as I have obtained two series 1 cars in the last 18 months, these were purchased from the same guy who also has a third car in his possesion (which is the earliest of the three) I am trying to get my hands on this one as well but he does'nt want to sell, yet!! The same guy also had a 260z two seater this was sold to a guy in Perth who has restored the car as for as I know. The second car I bought is the best one , it does need work but nothing too serious, car is original matching numbers car with an E31 head so worth the effort and money needed to restore it. I have seen quite a few 240z's for sale and looked at several that were unfortunately over priced for their condition. Bargains do come up, so keep looking and see if you can beat me to them! August 2, 200222 yr Author comment_11808 AH-HA! so that's why there are no 240zs available in Perth: you've got them all!Did you look at that orange one in Dianella a few weeks back? The guy wanted $12.5k and claimed it was immaculate. It was a genuine 1-owner car but needed some work... August 2, 200222 yr comment_11810 For any WA people out there looking, there is a 240Z in the quokka this week for $7K. I don't think it is stock because it has a close ratio manual box. August 2, 200222 yr Author comment_11811 Seen it. Its an early model and I think they had closer ratios than later models. Also, that car was sold to the present owner early in 2001 for under $5k (I'm guessing... it was advertised for $5K in March '01). The present seller gets cagey when questioned on how long he's had the car, who he bought it from etc..! August 2, 200222 yr comment_11838 Yes, you are right, that car was purchased earlier on (few months back) for around $5000.The car used to be in Mandurah and its a early one (has E31 head). The guy that owns it >> buys and sells zed cars and parts (two brothers one called Martin (tune right mobile mechanic), the other Robin (matchless mobile mechanic), but I think that the car for sale was purchased by their father)It also has rear view mirrors on the fenders (but not factory fitted ones) and it had really bad rust at the bottom of the quarter panels were it meets the bottom sill panel. August 2, 200222 yr comment_11868 Nick,Surf over to http://zhome.com/History/Zproduction.html Production figures are listed. A total of 6437 zed's [240 to 260] where imported into Au. The page gives a great breakdown on yearly figures. How many are left is another matter?
