Nothing special about the 350z?

Wow! I didnt realize that there were so many underlying issues with the 350z among the z car community. I mean after all they are just cars. When does a hobby become an obsession? Almost seems like religous zealotry.

Will, good luck on fitting two ladies into your 240Z!

I never said the 350Z was prettier than a 240Z....its not. Nissan could make Zs for another 1000 years and never top the original as far as beauty or charisma.

That said, my 350 is a blast to own and drive and does get alot of attention. If folks on here don't like them....oh well...you don't have to like it I guess you're not paying for it...

I didn't know there was such a contempt for the 350Z by the S30 community until I got on here....

.......Do you think that your 240z recieved this much attention in the 70's when you pulled up to the grocery store? No, they were everywhere and everyone took them for granted, much like the 350z is getting to be now.

I agree with everything you say except that. I bought a 240Z in 1970 and it always drew a crowd and lots of questions. They weren't 'everywhere'. Not until a couple of years later. They were new and there was nothing else quite like them at the time. The same can't be said for the 350Z. I jumped on the 350Z bashing bandwagon when they first came out but over time I've come to appreciate them as I do other cars that are worth appreciating. They are a diffrent car from a different era and I accept them for what they are once I got over expecting a 'retro 240Z'

I worked for a Nissan Dealer when the 350z came out. Frankly, I didnt see what all of the hoopla was about but I can tell you that you recieved quite a bit of attention in 2003 when you drove one around. Actually I get quite a few looks when I drive mine now. Maybe the chicks are just checking me out instead....... and I thought it was the car.

Im not disputing that in 1970 the z car made quite a splash but by the mid 70's it was just another car to most people. Not us car guys of course.

You guys seem to have missed the point of my post.

I have almost no contempt for the 350Z, I have tremendous contempt for Nissans marketing of it. The car didn't promise to be a close relative of the 240Z, Nissan promissed it was.

I enjoy driving a 350Z, from the drivers seat is it a very nice car, from the curb, it is a different story-to me. I close my eyes walking to it and I am fine. In my opinion the designers took the song "If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, go get yourself and ugly wife" to heart when designing the 350Z...but that is purely my opinion. Thank goodness the Nismo is a change...

I love my 350z. Its no 240z for sure. (I have both)

Its faster, runs better, stops better and handles better.

I think that makes it special.

No, not special, not like the 240Z was when it was still current.

The 240Z was unique - there was very little offered that was at all similar, it created its own new market niche.

The 350Z is a very competent sports car. (A bit uninspiring to look at, in my opinion, but competent none the less.) But so are multitudes of other cars on the market today. There is nothing about the 350Z that stands out like the original Z did. The saving grace for the 350Z is the combination of performance for a relatively affordable price. That's all it has going for it.

But personally, I'd probably buy a Mustang GT over a 350Z. At least the Mustang's looks are distinctive and everyone knows what it is...

You shouldn take me to seriously. In my opinion the coolest looking car ever is a 1969 440 6 pack superbee. Wont stop, wont handle, wont really go without smoking the tires, but sounds and looks hot. The 350 looks pretty good in profile but from the rear or straight on it is def. lacking.

I dont know... the 2005 mustang appealed to me at first but its getting boring to see all of them rolling around.

Kinda like a$$holes ya know. To each his own.

One thing that makes the 350z extra special is the way it tweaks all you old farts. HA HA

Yep that is one of the best things about the 350!!!

I'm not big on the new Mustangs either...theres about 3 billion on the road and they're not that good-looking IMO. I much rather have the 3Fiddy.

BTW, I've had mine for almost four years and never heard it described as 'ugly' or 'uninspiring' until I got on this site. Oh well....I don't care....

This thread reminds of something that happened a couple months ago. I was cruzin around in the 240Z and I passed this older guy- late 50s or so- out in his yard doing yard work and he looked up and admiringly checked-out the car. A lil later I was out in the 350Z and this same guy was still out there and this time he looked up at my car, frowned, and quickly turned away in disgust. I bet he muttered something like "damn ricer punk..." or similiar....LOL
