Posted June 11, 200717 yr comment_211948 We just got a '73 240 on friday. First 240, have a few 300's along with some other rides so we are getting to know this one. I've always wanted one, and this one should be a good project. It's had a lot of work done to it in the past 4 or so years, hasn't been on the road in those years. It has the three weber carb setup, a mallory distributer and electronic ignition, header, new shocks, u-joints a five speed transmission ( from ??) and a bunch of other stuff. Needs some body work, paint is pealing off, but overall, in pretty good shape.Anyway, we tried to start it, checked the plugs, getting spark, cleaned out the fuel system, opened the tops of the carbs to check/clean, put in fresh gas and....nothing. Sounds like it wants to start, but doesn't. The fuel pump keeps running, doesn't shut off. Shouldn't it shut off when it pressurizes the fuel system? The carbs all are getting gas, the accelerator pumps on the carbs seem to work, tried some started fluid, but nothing. I'm pretty good w/webers, have a 45 dcoe on a '67 mgb, so it think these are good enough to get it started. Any basic things to look for? Is there a link for a shop manual? All I've found so far are ones for 280's. Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24565-new-240/ Share on other sites
June 11, 200717 yr comment_211951 Congratulations on the new car, I just got a 1987 over the weekend.I'm not a big engine guy but since it has fresh gas and spark, have you checked the timing? Are the plugs getting wet with gas and just not firing when they should be.Good luck with your car.Bruce Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24565-new-240/#findComment-211951 Share on other sites
