Posted June 12, 200717 yr comment_211990 Hello I used the search function and came up empty. I was looking on Ebay and Came across this nice looking 1977 280Z that was sold and was checking out the photos. Question is, Are the Recessed part on side of the front and rear Quarter Panels (where the bumpers touch) the same size on a 280z as on a 240z? Or is the Recess in the Panels on a 280z larger cause of the bigger bumpers? Also I don't know what it's called but whats up with the Chrome Rocker Panel Strip? Was that a factory piece or dealer installed option and can they be removed with much sucess? Personally I think the 280z bumpers look better if they were switched out for 240's, although I know thats been discussed before Pics and Link below and Thyanx for any replies as always ~Z~ 1977 280z sold on EBAY Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24571-quarter-panel-question/ Share on other sites
June 12, 200717 yr comment_211992 I don't remember on the cutouts, but looking in the gallery would show...The Aluminum plate was an option sold by several companies in the 70s, it was available in 4(as you have pictured) or six parts(having another piece finishing out the rocker coverage on bith sides). It was available in black or polished, and ran about $30 a set(for the four piece set and $30 for the aditional 2 pieces-as I recall) both sets were also available for the 2+2. I believe it was actually a heatsink extrusion cut to fit, and originally used to hide rust and/or prevent stone chips. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24571-quarter-panel-question/#findComment-211992 Share on other sites
June 12, 200717 yr Author comment_211998 Thanx I seen them on a few Z's here around Racerville but never thought they did much for the color of the car if you wanted to switch your rims to any color other than silver. Seems like a easy way to hide rust for sure but what do heatsink mean? Is it like a installation process? June 12, 200717 yr comment_212000 Heat sink as in the part on the outside of an audio amplifier that gets hot when it is working-just the original use of the metal forms used for the pieces-nothing really to do with the car...Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24571-quarter-panel-question/#findComment-212000 Share on other sites
