Thanks guys for the help,I figured it out. It was so simple that it was stupid. I was fixing to pull the motor out and for some strange reason i decided to pull the valve cover. And there it was, a rocker arm had come loose. So i checked it out with another one i had and it was just wore out. So i replaced it and she runs fine. But i suspect the others are not far behind failure either, so i will replace all of them tomorrow. I am still confused though, because i checked all of the rockers before it started smoking and they all seemed to be in working order. Every thing seems to be back to normal, nosmoke no missing and she will run very well, all though i am afraid to push 8000 rpm,s untill i get all of the rockers replaced. ONCE AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR HELP GUYS. Gene.

Somewhere in that combined statement lies the answer to your problem. Have you done anything to your engine to allow it to sustain 8000 rpm runs w/o damage?

What RPM do you normally push?

Just curious...

Thats about normal for this car, usually i push about 7,500-7,800. I replaced the rockers today and it seems to be ok. I did pull the head and there was no visable piston/valve damage that i could tell. Taking her to the track tomorrow, I guess i will find out if its fixed. I will post results.

Not really, I had suspension issues and he car really strained when it hit 7000- 7500 rpms. How ever it would tack up a little more on a cool night. But I resolved the suspension issue and without doing any thing else to the engine it will hit 8000 rpms without a problem and still pulling pretty good. Oh yea, in case you are wondering, this is just a track car. I WISH I COULD DRIVE IT EVERY DAY! But the suspension wont allow it.

Any mods on these cars pushing 8,000rpm? I thought that the power dropped off after 6,000rpm and getting even close to redline (7,000rpm) was pointless.

I have a few, It has a full flow tech exaust system w/flowtech header readies, aluminum flywheel, brass clutch, tranny swap, super coil, taylor 8mm. wires,I took the clutch fan off and installed an electric fan in its place, eliminated power steering, to take drag off of the motor and replaced the gas tank w/a fuel cell. And i replaced the restricted exaust manifold w/a big belly manifold. and also cold air. Thats about it. Thats all i can afford right now.

With these mods turning that many rpms I'm afraid it wont be long before the oil pan fails.....to hold in the pistons:tapemouth

Hullo All

I did get a real chuckle from this!! I was wondering when someone would suggest things might go "POP".

That's what I was thinking too. In that list of mods there's no mention of oil pump, crank/rods, valve train, etc. You know, things you might do to make an engine live at higher rpm. I have another block to work with. Thats the one i am gonna work on. I had a head built for the motor im running now. But the machine shop i took it to ruined it and basicly told me to take a hike. That expeiriance kinda put a damper on my spirits. I am still cooling down over this.Once again I appreciate everyone,s

sounds like fun, destructive testing I like it....

I hope you look at the oil pressure at that speed too and have sum sort or cut out when all oil is flying around the crankcase in limbo....

ps my stock donk goes to 7500 before i kill every banger +-30 rpm but

I only fire every second banger above 7300 +-30 rpm

note im due for crank grind shortly

note you need to move the chain guide to balance the chain path up.
