Posted June 15, 200717 yr comment_212267 I got to drive my 280 for the first time today. The new alternator ive been waiting for finally arrived in time for my birthday so i had to take it out for a spin. Man what an experience! Its defiantly a lot more work to drive than my '99 Jimmy. Now i just need to get better with driving stick! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24605-maiden-voyage-in-my-280/ Share on other sites

June 15, 200717 yr comment_212291 Sounds like fun. I remember my "first" voyage out in mine, the muffler fell off in a parking lot.... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24605-maiden-voyage-in-my-280/#findComment-212291 Share on other sites
June 15, 200717 yr Author comment_212292 Nothing fell off this time but the alternator belt was loose so at every stop everything cut out on me. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24605-maiden-voyage-in-my-280/#findComment-212292 Share on other sites
June 15, 200717 yr comment_212296 Congrats on the first run...you'll find it's addictive and you'll have a hard time running the Jimmy...Now you need to find a nice, tight, twisty road and really put her through her paces...(a mountain run?).Just keep her out of the snow... June 15, 200717 yr comment_212300 Yes, the snow nearly killed my Z. Last year, thankfully before the body & paint, she hit a snowbank and was stuck. After a few hours some locals helped push her out of it and back onto the slippery icy road. I remember one guy said, "A Z? That's bold!"............regarding the fact that I took her up there. But, I do remember my first drive. Initially I was looking into the 280ZX, until I took my 78 for a spin. "Wow!", I thought. That's what I was getting! I felt like James Dean for a moment. June 15, 200717 yr comment_212331 Congratulations!!! It's amazing isn't it. The first time I drove my Z... I got a call from a friend at a car show. He said "You have to come see this car!" I went to see her. I will admit, I was okay at first. Then I got in the car. I told her "I'm coming back for you" and I bought her the next day.But enough about me, conratulations my friend. You'll find it was the best decision you've ever made. And as far as it being a stick goes, drive it every chance you get and soon it will become second nature.Hey, does such a thing exist as an automatic 280? It seems like a shame. A car that gorgeous should be manual. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24605-maiden-voyage-in-my-280/#findComment-212331 Share on other sites

If only you were a few years older a little closer. June 16, 200717 yr comment_212362 I have one out of... lets see six that is an automatic. Don't get me wrong I love her because she is beautiful. But I HATE driving her because it's boring. June 16, 200717 yr comment_212380 Thats awesome! I remember my first run in my Z car. Freaking amazing. A lot of torque down low which sure did surprise me. Did some heavy runs and in doing so found out the brakes weren't all that great with speed bumps coming up, then after that found out the suspension wasn't all that great either. June 16, 200717 yr comment_212383 LMFAO! Well, that's one way to find out. I finally tested my Z to see what she could do tonight. She's kick the DeLorean's @$$ any day. Not that I'd ever race the D. She'd probably explode (going on engine number three in that car).
