didn't want to hijack stephen's thread, but i am having an issue with removing the crankshaft pulley

the bolts that came with the pepboys puller i bought are the wrong size, and i was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to find the right puller or what size bolts to use...

anyone?

Jason

I use they type of puller with three arms that clamp on the back of the pulley and a center stud that you turn with a wrench or socket against the crank snout. I bought mine at Harbor Freight. They're fairly inexpensive.

If the hub is seized to crank nose or the rubber is in poor condition you can dislodge the outer ring from the hub using a three arm puller. The rubber literally shears or separates from the inner hub and outer ring. That renders a crank pulley useless. It would be better to acquire the proper bolts to use with a hub puller to ensure it comes off straight and causes no unnecessary damage.

While I don't know the pitch off the top of my head I can offer a suggestion for the future. I went to my local hardware store and simply bought one each of metric nuts and bolts in the common sizes used by Datsun. You can store each pair in a labeled bag and can use them to verify sizes whenever you need to buy new fasteners.
