240Z Euro tail lights on eBay

What's nuts is that MSA still list them when they are not available any more..............

Like so many genuine factory parts for these cars, when stocks run out that will be it - no more. The factory just isn't putting the contracts out with the sub-contractors to get small batches made any more, and only service or mechanical parts are still in production. Wait till you can't get these any more..........

That guy on e-bay is not quite so crazy as you think. We will see more and more of this kind of thing happening soon.

You guys in the USA and North America would think of these particular lights as a cosmetic upgrade / change for your cars ( just something to make your car a little different from the crowd ) and the stock USA / North American market version rear lights are probably still available to you ( while stocks last.......... ). However, spare a thought for all those who used these lights as standard equipment ( not just "Euro" as you say over there - these lights were stock on the Japanese "Home" market versions too ). If I have someone rear-end my car, or I am doing a 100-point resto. job, then I just can't get 'em. Collectors and dealers in Japan have been buying them and stashing them for a rainy day, and I have been forced to buy a set "just in case" too. This ups the ante, and now anyone who wants a set ( or even just a lense on its own ) is going to have to join the queue or pay a premium price with people like the e-bay vendor.

Personally I say good luck to him. If he gets the price then good for him. Even if he does not sell them, he has parts that are becoming more and more valuable to the right person. I find it much more annoying that companies like MSA and others still advertise them and then tell me that they are "out of stock"...........

The way things are in Japan at the moment, that "out of stock" means "sold out and not being replaced"...........

Basic Supply and Demand facts.

There are a LOT of people that want these lights, there aren't that many lights to go around, let alone NEW and in the box. If you want them you'll have to put up the money, too rich for you, then don't bid.

That's why the old expression: "If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it."

In Sales: The value of an item is the price that that item will bring when offered for sale.

And the final item, think of it this way:

The 240Z sold for about $3700 back in the early 70's. Nowdays, a 240Z in EXCELLENT condition may fetch as much as $15,000 while an Average condition car will fetch about $5000. (prices are not necessarily exact)

Looks like Spiderman has been watching far too much of Richard Simmons doesn't it???LOL

About those lights. It wasn't long ago when there were plenty of them to go around. You could buy them for about 69 each, now all of a sudden they are in excess of 250 each. Same goes for the clear front signal lenses, were 30 each, now reaching 75 each.

Should have stocked up on a couple sets years ago huh??? Now when I want a set I don't want to spend the money. Goes without saying, hindsight is a PITA guys.

Maybe someone someday will find a supplier that is willing to make them, until then it put out the cash or go home empty handed. It's like this with all the collectors cars, not just Z's. Why do you think their are so many people that go to Carlisle, PA to the shows with tractor trailers full of old used parts? Because someone is looking to pay a handsome fee to get what they need. It just took longer to hit the Z market, that's all.:(

Sorry guys, but those taillight and the clear front lenses should be in my hot little hands soon. Couldn't resist. I have wanted a set for a long time, just kept putting off buying them not knowing that someday they wouldn't be available like so many other parts. Live and learn. :tapemouth

Congrats 2ManyZs! You have just acquired the very last set of 240Z Euro tail lights in the world. How do you feel? Would love to see them installed on a Z. Show us a pic when you're done please.

Hey 2many,

What will you do if Koito mould up another few thousand for us crying lightless hordes over here in Europe ( or Japan, even )?

I'm not going to bet on it, but they did it a few years ago - and the lights you have just bought are probably from the latest ( last? ) batch to be produced.

Never mind, even if they do make some more ( unlikely with the "new regime" at Nissan ) they will probably be "reassuringly expensive"................

I have a pair of NOS ( mint in box ) USA / North American spec. rear light units stashed in my garage. I am waiting until 2052 before I put them on e-bay, as it will take that long for you guys to run out of them..............

Hope you have fun wiring them in.
