I've gotten this fatal error message when trying to search

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 40 bytes) in /var/www/vhosts/classiczcars.com/httpdocs/forums/includes/class_core.php on line 722

I received this message when trying to search from the main page, as well as a thread page.

Ok, I didn't see the dialog that time. What I did see was a screen that tells me I didn't wait long enough between posts. That might explain why I've been seeing a lot of double posts lately. The first one actually goes through but then the user is warned that they didn't wait long enough and might well click the button again.

When that happens, HIT THE BACK BUTTON, Highlight and copy your post, then go to the main page to see if it actually DID post. The forum in question will have "Last post BY" your name. If it did'nt, then just repost using the paste option. That way, you won't double post and if it did'nt work, you don't totaly lose it either.

Been there done that,

Dave.

HEY MIKE, Still not getting any notification of posts thru email. I sit and wait for replies but never know till it's too late, by coming back to check. Ya know?

Case in point. Post #16 in this thread. It was a quick reply, entered once. About a minute passed before I gave up waiting. I exited the site and then entered again. The post did enter and only once. Just an observation to help Mike track down the problem.

Hi guys, sorry I am taking so long on this. It looks like we are exceeding the limits of our PHP server and I need to figure out how to increase the maximum limits. Somehow modifying /etc/php.ini doesn't work because there's a phantom setting somewhere else in my configuration files. This is one of the biggest pains about Linux....

There is also a problem with the Quick Reply.

Often, when you "post" the reply, the computer seems to "freeze" and never return from "posting". If you cancel and re-key to post you end up with a double post.

This happens quite often and I've not noted a pattern that I can identify.

EDIT: THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE DOUBLE POST!

I FINALLY GOT A "This post is a duplicate of a post that you have posted in the last five minutes."

Check the /etc directory...Always seem to find the craziest settings files there or in /usr/include

I don't have a whole lot of experience with LAMP setups, but that was just a general observation. Of course it's always dependent on your linux flavor.

Mike, I suspect that the setting you are tracking down is not in the /etc/php.ini file, but might be in the main php files for the forum app itself. There is probably one or two main files that are read or included in every page load. In the case of the blog server that I babysit, it is named BlogApp.php and is in the lib directory inside the document root.

FWIW...
