Injection

Recommended Posts

I recently drove a friend's 280Z with factory injection, all stock. It sure is nice compared to my 240, but it fell on its face about 4500 rpm. My 240 feels crisp and lean, the 280 feels pretty fat. I've seen the 280 injection adapted to almost everything over the years, but can it be run well on a 240? I don't want it to die at 4500 rpm. It will pull beyond that, but the power is gone. My 240 with carbs pulls good right to 5600 and then it's done making power. I really like the driveablility of the injection and I have to assume the mileage is better too. Any thoughts?

My 78 pulls all the way to the redline so perhaps your friends car needs a little maintainence. As far as adapting the EFI from a 280 to a 240, it's been done but it takes a good bit of work to get it right. If I had a 240, I'd go L28 w/carbs.

If you wanna go injection in your 240, grab an l24e from an 83-4 maxima. 2400 so you'll still be in the 240z realm and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as to the power those engines make. And if your lucky you get the 5 speed and do it all at once. And I agree with sblake, my 280 pulls all the way to the redline. And really once your into it the EFI is not that complex. So if anyone has a spare 240 just lying around?...:cheeky: I've got a l24e just waiting for a new home.

all you gotta do change the pickup tube and the sump to the Z model stuff. could even get it off the original 240 engine. I just did some work on my maxima and I gotta say that L24e does get down pretty good hauling that fatass maxima down the road. I need a 240!! I think it would be an unusual and cool swap.

Yes but the hole that the Maxima tube goes in is filled on the Z engine and the hole that the Z tube goes in is filled on the Maxima engine. It would take some machine work. Zcarnut who is a member on this site had that done when he put the stroker in his 810. It's not just a simple swap of tubes. Believe me, I have both cars and have compared the bottom ends on both of them.
