3 into 2 MSA header

Just got the 3-2 header with the turbo exhaust installed on my little girl. WOW! Big thumbs up, two snaps and a twist etcetera. Great sound and you can definately feel the difference in the pick up. If you haven't yet, you need to. Well worth the $$$. Now I gota buy air horns and those damn can airfilers. Oh well, there goes another $200!

Going to bring up an old thread to make a question.

Now what is better?

3 to 2 or 6 to 1? Do they both give basically the same performance increase, but have different sounds?

Are there sound clips somewhere for the 3 to 2 and the 6 to 1 so that people could choose which sound they like better?

Freaking Sweet :smoke: !

Zedyone is correct. The 6-1 is higher and the 3-2 is for lower and mid range.

ok, so which one is rather preferred for Drag Racing :beard: ?

Looking at a 3 - 2 header as well from Nissmo or MSA (for the N47 head).

Interesting to learn these facts today Blue Meanie, and keep ROCKIN' ON :smoke:

The three into 2 ends up as a 6 into 1 when you go to a single exhaust system, you just have two collectors upstream that dump into a single pipe. I don't think it's going to make that big a difference. it's when you go duals all the way back that you will notice. Just because one guy has or claims he has more power even at a certain rev range does not show off the benefits of one over the other. The motor internals are going to be different, whether it's compression ratio, or cams, or timing. With all these Z's running around I don't think I have ever seen the same car, same motor, same everything test both systems back to back for true results. I have an MSA 6 to 2 to 1 header and I have a Datsun comp header. The Datsun header is 6 into 2 and is ment to run 2 pipes all the way back. Maybe Datsun found something there since a single pipe would have been a much easier install.

FYI

The Datsun Comp is a 6-2 header, but the design allows for running duals all the way or allowing the end user to determine at what point they want to have the 2-1 collector placed. Placement of the collector close to the header or near the rear diff does make a difference. My memory is bad so I'm not going to guess which placement causes what changes. I just remember discussing this with someone involved in Datsun SCCA race engines and they tend to place the collector near the rear end and on a street the collector tends to be near the transmission

(Just curious)

I've seen these claims before, but are they dyno proven? If so, where's the source?

We've been here before haven't we?

All engines, regardless of their state of tune will benefit (to some degree) from an improved exhaust system over the stock system, even the L24!

An excellent book on the subject is:

Scientific Design of Exhaust and Intake Systems

Third Edition

Philip H. Smith

John C. Morrison

2002.

First written in 1962, and before the L series existed, there were experiments galore made by these boys on what works and what doesn't. Exhaust system pulsing, like that in the intake system, can be used to enhance the running performance of an engine if the exhaust is designed to take advantage of this phenomenon.

Grab a copy from your library and read up fellas. :P
