August 2, 200222 yr comment_11855 Replacement Dashes in good condition are rare. When you do find one, even from a bone yard, you are talking some serious dollars. New and in the box? Even higher dollars. Most people opt for the Dash Cap. This is a layer of ABS plastic or the like that will fit on top of your dash like a second skin. Cost? About 80-100 depending on who you get it from. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2482-71-needs-new-dash/#findComment-11855 Share on other sites

August 3, 200222 yr comment_11873 I had A dash "fixed" by A shop like that. It was on my 74 vette. looked damn good. For the first 6 months. Then It started cracking around the patchs they put in. They just push A heavy foam in the cracks then cover that with melted plastic and brand the grain in the new plastic. After time it splits again. This time the cracks are smaller tho.:stupid: With the dash caps there are 2 types I know of half "top" or full. The top cap covers the top ta just under the gauges. and full is just that. I cant say I have used eather one. This is just what I have been told. August 8, 200222 yr comment_12342 That Dashrestorations company looks interesting. They'll do a complete recovering in the color of your choice and ship for about $500. If you're not worried about originality you could match the dash color to the rest of the interior. August 8, 200222 yr comment_12355 that place looks legit. They say that the consumer places all the guages back in. you may need to completely disassemble the whole dash prior to sending. Keep us posted if you go through with it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2482-71-needs-new-dash/#findComment-12355 Share on other sites

August 11, 200222 yr comment_12547 Derk,I see that you are in Southern Indiana. I am in chicago and will be going to the Show in Indy on 8/17.I have a dash out of 72 in my basement. It was 1 minor impection at the very forward lip where it meets the metal strip around the window. It is a crack about 3/4" X 1/4". If you have a late 71, you coul swap parts over with not much trouble. I would let it go for $350.If you are intersted, I could bring it to the show and meet you there.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2482-71-needs-new-dash/#findComment-12547 Share on other sites
