a really nice 240z on Ebay

This is most likely a good example of a half-step. Meaning the owner took half steps between building a solid #3 example - and retaining the lower budget of a very nice #4 condition daily driver.

Absolutely nothing wrong with doing what he did - preservation of a clean, well cared for 240-Z should be encouraged. He could keep it and enjoy it for years - and years from now it would most likely be worth twice what it is today.

However taking half steps - will not yield a real #3 example, that would sell for between $14K and $16K. Metallic Brown is not a very "hot" retail color either, and the car has 100K plus miles..... so I'd expect bids up to $8,500.00 but not much over that on e-bay.

Just my opinion...

a) he should have done a complete repaint on a car that nice...

B) he should have known that the seat covers were incorrect...

c) he leaves some confusion related to the 240-Z Strip - did they paint around it??....da.....

e) NO - properly set up - the 240-Z's do not shake at 55 mph... nor any other speed. If the front end is shaking - something is still WRONG.

f) if he knows as much about 240-Z's as he says - he should have known that pictures of the exterior floorboards & frame rails, area under the battery, rear threshold etc. - should have been put on e-bay..

g) engine bay is clean, braided hose - but none of the original Cad. plated parts restored to their original look etc. So there is a long way to go there as well.

It will be interesting to see what it brings.... E-Bay is always a crap shoot...

FWIW,

Carl B.

Agree...also note the condition of rear suspension pieces, compared with half shafts---partial recondition here as well, which baffles me. If you're taking down the rear suspension (and gas tank, for that matter) why not do the diff and halfshafts while you're at it? And since all that's down, why not clean up the undercarriage?

I think ultimately the condition of this car is close to lonetree Steve's sale a few months back. Biggest detriment is the color, IMO. Brown just doesn't say "Buy Me!" as much as red, orange or yellow does. I'm sure it looks great in person (no offense to our brown z owners) but will likely hinder a good bid on EBay where pics mean so much more....

I agree with Carl on all counts. Especially the parts about '55 MPH shake' (neither of mine do this) and that 'eBay is a crap shoot'. (I can testify to that from personal experience as well.)

I don't know, I think he'll actually get it.

Maybe not the 18K but probaly over 10 :rambo:

Sometimes Resale Red is just played out, I'm sure theres someone out there thinking "Factory Brown" LOL

First time I ever seen someone take a fender off to take a photo though, along with the back taillight panel. That kind of detail should get someones attention.

Interrior looks clean but whats wrong with the seats again Carl? Wrong year you say?

Kind of reminds me of my car. A year earlier and not as original mine was when I first got it, but more so than mine is now. However, I still have less rust and the original paint in and out, and the original seat covers. As far as Metallic Brown goes, I actually like it because it's not so common. Same as the butterscotch interior. But to each his own.
