Anyone else been watching this set on Ebay? Wonder what happened? All the bidders cancelled their bids?:surprised

Not all the bidders cancelled their bids, THERE IS SOMETHING FISHY GOING ON!

My bid was CANCELLED by someone, I retracted NOTHING!

I see now in the final minutes it's 'going up in price again'----yeah, a likely story.

I received a notice in my e-mail that said 'a bid has been changed, you are currently the high bidder' and then the next e-mail in sequence said 'your bid has been cancelled'!

All without my interaction AT ALL! FISHY FISHY FISHY!

Oh, well I guess they 'sold' to 'Bidder 6' after 'Bidder 12' did some last second spiking of the price to $717.15. But not to be outdone 'Bidder 11' did some damage as well...

This makes me upset to say the least. I got to mark that seller---something SHILL FISHY is going on there, methinks!

Not only did I 'mark' him, I sent in a shill bid complain to e-bay. I have never had this happen before, and this guy is only 30 miles from my house, I generally know the people selling this stuff. I noted that while I may not have won the bid at that price, I would have floated on top for 'quite a while'.

I was cancelled at 10:50, and all the re-bidding happened after that. "Bidder 3" popped back on the scope just after noon...with a bunch of others. Like Bidder 3 was someone special that the seller could confirm was making a 'real bid' perhaps---or a 'real fishing expedition'---my bid would have been well along into 'Bidder 11' territory +

Something fishy, something fishy indeed. I don't like not seeing the bidder names, nope----don't like it at all!

When I noticed the cancelations this morning I contacted the seller and asked what's up. This was his response.

Hi, thank you for watching my Auction. Someone get into my auction , then mest up my auction. I am not try to selling fake stuffs. It is 100% guarantee too. Thank you Tutima07

Normally when this happens the auction is cancelled, is it not? I was the bidder who came in second and am wondering if a second chance offer is coming. If that happens I would agree something smells and will decline.

So you were Bidder 12? I was in there beyond several of Bidder 11's original Bids...but I wasn't in there!

I wonder who Bidder 6 was...

I did send a 'WTF' post to the seller but alas it was like 15 minutes before the auction ended. I'll go check and see if I got a response. That language in the response you got looks bad, just on it's face.

Apparently same here---this is the response I received:

" Dear XXXXXXXXXXX,

Hi, this is tutima. I did't do anything. In this mornig I checked my e-bay, then I saw every bid was canceled. Also, someone use my e-bay id, then try to mess around other persons auction too. I was reported E-bay. I was victim too. By the way thank you very much to bid my auction. Tutima07

- tutima07 "

The plot thickens.

I agree that the use of hiding the names of the bidders is becoming overused. It seems it was originally only used for vehicles. Now used for every dinky little part.

By accident, I raised the cost of purchase for another "local Z club member " because I was bidding on a part I knew they wanted but thought due to their business traveling was unable to bid. Not gonna do that again............

I think all this hidden bidder stuff is rubbish. I like to know who i'm bidding against, so i can check out there bidding history to guess how much they are going to bid, or whether its someone I know, so I dont bid.

I agree. And if their reasoning is that this will reduce the amount of 'phishing' that goes on, I think it's a knee-jerk reaction that likely won't do much good. After all, spammers have access to a lot of email addresses that come from other sources besides eBay.

And I know that eBay says that shilling is against their policies, but I've wondered how much effort they put into actually enforcing that. After all, eBay is getting a nice big slice of those shilled goods, too.....

...snip... or whether its someone I know, so I dont bid.

The +/-'s of the "hidden bidder" depends on which side of the $ you're on. Every seller wants the max $ amount for his item and having someone drop out because one bidder doesn't want to bid against another (for whatever reason) limits his potential outcome.
