I'm considering piecing together a Mikuni 44 setup over the next few months and am curious if anyone can provide some info on these two intakes I saw on EBay, the seller doesn't have much detail on them from what I can tell.

They're both intermediate length runners which is good. They don't say how big the carb side opening is which is pretty critical. If they're 40mm you'll have a good solid 8 hours of porting to get them to match your 44s and taper nicely down to the head end of the manifold.

They look to be alot of work and I'm more of a "get as much intact as possible in instead of fixing someone elses bastardized failure" kind of guy. (From what I've been able to digest I want a Cannon long or a Nissan competition intake, something that runs straight without kinks) I didn't want to pass up an opportunity though to pick up something that might be unique or really worth something later on down the road.

I was more curious about the ones with the Japanese inscription. I'm pretty sure they're all "from Japan", I wouldn't mind finding something unique to the JDM crowd that never made it over here.

The Kanji script on the first one reads 'Kyoku To'. That was the original Japanese name ( and one of the trademarks ) of a long-established and well respected company called 'Far East Trading' ( F.E.T. for short ). This is a nice manifold, very close to the original Nissan 'Sports Option' equipment, and with a generic 8mm spindle that is easy to find linkage parts for. However, as jmortensen has pointed out, it is more likely to have been supplied to fit an L20A or L20E six, and therefore will have a lot of meat at the cylinder head joint that would need to be taken out. Carburettor flange end for the 40mm and 44mm carbs ( 45mm Webers and Dell'Ortos too ) is the same though.

The second one looks very similar to the 'Sanyo Kiki' / 'S.K' / 'Sanyo Sports Kit' item, although the pic is not that clear and I don't see the telltale 'San Yo' logo on the centre casting. These too were well respected in their time, and the linkage works well enough when set up properly. Again, probably originally made to fit the L20A or L20E sixes - so plenty of meat on the cylinder head end.

Neither of them are particularly 'rare' in Japan, but these two eBay auctions are ( currently at least ) at comparatively low prices, and in my opinion they are good value.

So that's what "F.E.T. Kyoukuto" means! I have a manifold I scavenged off an early Skyline that says that in Romanized Block Letters...I always wondered what "FET" stood for... That particular manifold has a removable cover on the balance tube section, and indeed is set up for 40mm Solexes. The throttle rod towers hit the hood on the Z, though, so it's a Skyline only setup. I still have it, maybe one day...

Obviously they made more than one style of manifold, as I have one of each same as those shown in the two auctions as well. One that came with my 44 Solexes, the other (The FET) came with, and is still attached to the L26 with Dellorto 45 DHLA's in my 71 Fairlady Z
