10 Commandments of Driving

The Vatican came up with these commandments. The goal is to restore the virtue of the automobile as a way to go places, instead of a way to get yourself into trouble, or to bring trouble to others. I believe the goal of this club goes along with the idea. And then there are those people out there that seem to think that a car is a license to be an idiot, break any & every driving law, and even commit crimes in secret or even outright for their own gratification.

I think everyone ( even CZCC people) could take a good look at themselves and see where they are lacking, and to revive the spiit of driving as a pastime or enjoyable event, and that we are all out there at some time, so we all need to get along and keep things safe. Or, as we do in Scouting- lead by example.

The "Drivers' Ten Commandments" as listed by the document are:

1. You shall not kill.

2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.

3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.

4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.

5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.

6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.

7. Support the families of accident victims.

8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.

9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.

10. Feel responsible toward others.

A semi scriptural reply in a jovial form. I am not religious or trying to poke at anyone.

Such commandments wouldn't be necessary if people knew "tzedek". (Hebrew for righteousness) Treating others as God intended us to extends to all aspects of interaction with others IMO.

What ever happened to "Thou shalt not drive in the left lane while everyone is passing you by"??

Better yet.. "Thou shalt not crawl up someone's backside at a light, especially when it's a meticulously restored Z car"

Oh yeah, "Thou shalt not set thine baby seat on my HOOD or lean on my nice paint"!

"Vengeance is for the Lord" but what I would give to have a death ray or perhaps a laser sighted semi-automatic hypodermic dart gun which could flatten offending driver's tires.

Driving in today's cities has lost its fun due to rubberneckers, congestion and the "me first" attitude which pervades driving society. Like ways of sinning, people invent new means of getting to the front of the line while pissing everyone else off. As I age it's amusing to see what passes as acceptable road behavior today as compared to twenty years ago. Sad really.

If YOU had a $47,000 Lexus SUV, then YOU'd also have those priviledges that the other guy (person) has (given to themself?)

"Americans" have three basic vices that drive everything they do:

1. Vanity: "I DESERVE a $47,000 Lexus SUV" because I make $65,000 a yr.

-- or -- " I CAN drive faster than speed limit because I'm a 'safe driver.'"

2. Greed "I WANT a $47,000 Lexus SUV because I got $65,00 a yr job."

-- or -- " I NEED to driver over the speed limit because I gotta get to work/Golf/ Restaurant in time.

3. Fear "If I don't get a $47,000 Lexus SUV, my buddies at work will think I'm a wussy."

-- or -- If I don't driver over the speed limit, the guy behind me will flash his lights, or I'll be late to work & won't have time for coffee & emails."

I thought I was the only one. I'm not vain or snobby about my car. I don't think I am better than anyone else because I have a car that I think is really cool. But (and this is something that has happened more than once) the other day I was at my AutoZone, working and minding my own business when some crazy woman came up and just opened the door and got in!!! Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't that seem just a little bit rude??? You don't just go up and get in somebody's car. I almost went out there and said something but I knew if I did, I would end up kicking some arse and getting arrested and probably even losing my job. So I watched. She sat in it, touched everything, and then got out. I was FUMING!!!! Needless to say, I lock my car now.

OMG! That's UNREAL and completely uncalled for. How anyone could think it's OK to hop in something they don't own and thinks it's kosher? Perhaps she was trying to steal the car or something inside?? I think you would have been OK to confront her about what she was doing.

I was at an airshow once and caught two bozos hopping in/on an F4U Corsair. Not only is it a rare plane but they are $1-2.5 million by the time you get one restored. The people who own such planes attend airshows because they want to share/show what they have. I know how you felt because I was almost opened a can 'O whoopass on them for being so ignorant/uncaring/selfish.

In the "spirit" of this thread I'll call it righteous indignation:)

It's the year 2007 and the world at large is still unenlightened and lacking any desire for true knowledge/spirituality. Getting rid of all one's vices doesn't guarantee you a free ticket through the pearly gates. The "misbehavior" is a symptom of a larger disease which is not easily cured until one is "called" to a different standard.

One of my favorite verses was in Thessalonians regarding a "man of lawlessness". Basically a man was sent to deceive and was specifically allowed to do so because people did not want to know the truth. They were allowed to believe the lie and would perish with no intervention from above because of their superficial treatment of faith. Americans and the world at large are in for a bumpy ride:)

IMO, thew smoking ban in the U.S. is the first (albeit small) step to that state of maturity. If people can give p smoking at anytime, then maybe they'll behave outside of those buildings & places too?
