Posted July 23, 200717 yr comment_216073 lets suppose for project cost, resale value and personal choice if buying said car, would you prefer to have a full dash cap or a profestional recover job with material that closely matches but is softer?the car is a 76, near perfect mostly original condition. the major flaws, the dash has the cracks and dented gas tank. only 98k on it.so which would you prefer?full cap or recover?why?i know i ask the dumbest $^!#.thanks for the opinions.tony Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24981-dash-restoration/ Share on other sites
July 23, 200717 yr comment_216074 Hey Tony,I would prefer the recover but due to cost I will probably have to go with the cap...on my '76Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24981-dash-restoration/#findComment-216074 Share on other sites
July 23, 200717 yr comment_216086 I would go full pro resto. For cost however checkout BD240Z's post on dash repair. That's where my money is going to go. If his dash turned out that good after being so bad, mine should turn out fab! July 23, 200717 yr comment_216093 I've done both. The full cover is fine for a driver, the restore is what you need for points in a car show, but unless that is your goal, correctly installing a full cover will be all but identical, not be noticed but by a very few, and leave $500-600 for other things. When I get closed to installing the dash, I'll post pictures of a cover, a restored dash and a NOS dash sid by side. thed Restoration and the NOS dash are already pictured side by side in my gallery-as well, there is a picture of a full face cover in my red Z. Have a look, and see which you prefer...considering both the restoration and the cover are slightly different texture that the original...WIll The key is careful installation of the cover. I wrote a post on it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/24981-dash-restoration/#findComment-216093 Share on other sites
