In an engine of unknown mechanical condition or higher mileage, using a sythetic lube is more than likely a waste of money. They are no miracle cure for any wear. They would be a good addition if you at some point rebuild the engine. You would be better off just to use a good quality motor oil and change it every 2500 miles and save your money for a good rebuild when it is necessary.

As far as additives, I have used Restore in the past. It worked fairly well in a car that had 160,000 plus miles. It did lower the oil consumption slightly and the car did actually seem to perform better overall. You can get it in at most auto parts stores, it is not too expensive, and it must be added to every new oil change.

Now I just add about a pint of Marvel Mystery Oil a day or two before the oil change.

I use synth - whatever is on sale - and the best Purolater filter they make every 3 mos/3K miles. I figure with that frequency an d quality of filter, I can run with store-brand synth.

changing oils constantly isnt a good idea. from what motor quest says. its a book we get in the shop all the time. chaning oils is like changing blood. everyones oil is slightly different.

i stick with one oil and use it all the time and a good fram filter.

as far as restore goes. i would put anything in my engine that you have to shake

if it settles while on the shelf imagin what it does inside your engine.

like 2many said keep your oil changes frequent and steady. save it for a rebuild and do it right the first time.

its always better for you in the end

this is a great product . The only time that I have used it over a period of time was when I bought a car that had been neglected as far as the oil being changed as often as it should , and I used Rislone to free the rings and clean out the crud as I started having lifter problems . I changed the oil at 500 miles and again added Rislone with the new oil. and ran another 1000 miles and drained it again and also a new filter . I then just went with Quaker State only .and changed at 3k from then on. I put 100,000 miles on that engine and it was still running fine when I sold the car. Some people use it all the time but I think that if you use good oil and filters and change them at 3k nothing else in nessary . I have used Rislone in all my cars and trucks when I first bought them if not new, or if I dident know the privious owner or how the engine was taken care of.
