Posted August 8, 200717 yr comment_217766 Has anybody ever replaced the roller on the lower door hinges of a 73 240? It is the round part that the spring arm presses on and catches in two spots as the door open. Mine have deep grooves in them from old age. It looks as they are they same from 1970-78.I am rebuilding my hinges with new pins and bushings.Check this out http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/body/doorhinge/index.htm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25137-door-hinge-roller/ Share on other sites
November 27, 201014 yr comment_337116 Reviving an old thread: I've been nursing my door stop rollers along for a long time now, squirting them occasionally with penetrating oil, hoping that they would get better with use, and that the crap would eventually work its way out of them. The problem is that mine like to freeze in place (no doubt due to rust), so the detent arm slides and grinds on the frozen roller. That's not good. I once bought a truck whose PO neglected this part, and the metal fatigue had broken up the door's sheet metal around the door hinge. I had to have the door welded back together. So has anyone figured out how to get lubricant into these things without removing the doors and rebuilding the hinges? I'd be grateful for any easy solutions. November 28, 201014 yr comment_337196 Mine are not worn out but did set for over a quarter century. They did moan, creak and grind untill they were lubed first with 30wt oil, then wheel bearing greese, worked in, and most excess removed. Smooth as can be now.Bonzi Lon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25137-door-hinge-roller/#findComment-337196 Share on other sites
November 28, 201014 yr comment_337224 Thanks! OK, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing then. My plan is to progress from light/penetrating lubricants to heavier ones. (I did try the motor oil at first, but it wouldn't penetrate.)
