August 21, 200717 yr comment_219254 I will continue because this thread goes close to what I'm wondering. How do know if I have the original engine under the hood? August 21, 200717 yr comment_219258 What are you missing?:cross-eyeSorry about posting little bit hasty, but it's not easy to spot things which aren't on your own language. Is there another way expect the one maddos "nicely" pointed out...? August 21, 200717 yr comment_219262 The original engine serial number on the Datsun 240-Z's, in addition to being stamped into the data tag under the hood, is printed on the original Window Sticker and it is supposed to have been recorded in the Owner's Warranty/Service Book that came with the car when new. At least here in the US. This may or may not be the case on later models after 1975... For What It's Worth...Carl B. August 21, 200717 yr comment_219284 Markus, what we here in the US have may not be the same in Europe. Our 240Zs, 260Zs and early 280Zs had the original engine number and chassis number stamped on a number plate that was located under the hood (bonnet), generally on the right side inner fender. (An example is circled in green in the attached picture.) The plate was not always in that exact location, but that is a good example. The later US 280Zs (after '76 or so) had the chassis number but did not specify the engine number on the plate. I do not know if the 240Zs and 260Zs that were sold in Europe had the engine number noted on this plate as well, but it seems likely. August 21, 200717 yr comment_219309 Thanks Stephen. So I can reasonably say that I'm still dealing with a 280z engine and not a zx mill. Thanks again. If your engine was a zx block it would have F-54 in the casting of the block. just below the top of the block on the left side, by #6 cylinder , and stock would have a P-79 or P-90 head. It's was behind the AC compressor. If I look at engine number on the block, is originally located behind some tube, which start side of the block and goes to the front? Also, I have one thing that keeps me asking things here and hybridz forum and that's the fact that my car is from US. Last location was in LA area. But thanks for the help on this thing. I found out that I have original engine under the hood and now I can start lookin for another engine so I can spare this one for restoration.
