Is there a way one can add the unleaded gas nozzle restrictor to the filler neck on a 78 280Z? They way it is now (stock) you could fit any nozzle in there- unleaded, leaded, diesel... Or you could fit a siphon tube in there too. :eek:

Sure. Some late California 280Zs came with catalysts, and so the filler neck from a CA model should work.

You mean to say that LEADED petrol/gas is still sold in the U.S.:eek::eek:

No, no leaded fuel available here either, other than race and specialty fuels.

Regular Unleaded gasoline was introduced to the American market in 1976. Lead was eliminated from all gasoline for road going vehicles here in the US by Jan. 1, 1996. That year 30% of the gasoline sold in NSW, Australia was leaded fuel.

Regular Unleaded petrol was introduced to the Australian market in 1986, to enable new vehicles there to operate with a catalytic converter. The sale of leaded petrol was phased out in Australia by the Commonwealth Government on 1 Jan. 2002.

Carl, I think what Nissanman was alluding to was that you still had leaded fuel (which you don't), why else would you want to fit a restrictor!

I don't see the point of the thread as I'm sure we all know the difference between petrol(gas) & diesel.

I noticed a fuel pump labeled LEADED the last time I tanked up my DD. then I checked all the nozzles on that pump to see if there was a difference in size, because of the possibility of one grabbing the wrong one.

I even asked the gas station attendent if they sold LEADED GAS, and he said Yes.

Leaded gasoline is still "available" in the USA - just not for road going vehicles. So you don't see it for sale at local Gas Stations.

Aviation Fuel is still available with trace amounts of lead, as is Racing Fuel (now about $10.00 per gallon for 107 octane). NASCAR has committed to running unleaded now and that will most probably be followed by the other sanctioning bodies in the not too distant future.

I haven't a clue as to what TomoHawk saw...Avgas maybe??

Hi Carl,

I was going to add a similar comment as an edit.

Leaded is only available by issue of a Leaded "Passport". 100LL is the most commonly available aircraft fuel. There are other high octane specalist fuels available by the drum, no doubt similar fuels are available in the US.

Like yourself, I am baffled by the thread as leaded fuel's are of a higher octane and pose no risk to a L series engine, in fact before lead was banned down here, I often filled up 1/2 & 1/2.

I stopped to gas up at that same gas station I saw the leaded gas pump at two weeks ago, and that pump is still there. I really don't think it's for avgas, as it 's at a gas station on a busy suburban road 15 miles from the nearest airport.
