Datsuns in Second Life

Oh, sorry... VR is Virtual Reality. Second Life is a VR world created by a company called Linden Labs. It's an interesting world to explore, but, a lot of fun. You can create many different things in there (including an alternate reality). I'd like to create a club garage and start a cool collection of user rides. But, first we need to create a base-model of the 240z that people can modify. Check out SL at: http://www.secondlife.com -- Warning, it is addicting.

Mike,

I had an hour to kill at work this morning, and I never heard of Second Life. So I went there and logged in and dl'd their software. I went to the Australian world and walked around for a bit. Pretty neat environment. I looked for people on the map and most of them were in one spot...so I went there and sure enough it was the 'free sex area'.

I only saw one virtual house with a car in it, but it looked pretty basic. I assume you cant drive them and they're just models.

Too bad they won't take .dwg (From a glance it looks like you have to use their software to create.

One of us could easily scan our Z's using a sonic digitzer and ACAD.

This would be the "easy way" to get a 3d object into CAD. Unfortunately it would prob only make a 3d face and not a solid.

My cousin would like the VR world. I've got too much reality in mine though. I've heard stories of people paying lots of money to develop/obtain virtual objects.

Be very careful of second life. We know a father of three who ended up spending 3 months in a mental hospital after becoming iddicted to second life. Nearly cost him his life.

Turn the TV/computer off and enjoy life....in a zed.

A 3D model would be awesome. I found a thread here that discussed CAD and models, but, it doesn't look like anything finalized.

There are ways to take 3D models and map them into Second Life. That's what I'm trying to do now.

As far as the bad parts of Second Life, there are also good parts to that place. Build your own shop, fill it with cars, create a virtual race team. It doesn't compare to real life, but, it's a way to express creativity and burn some time. Use it responsibly like anything else.

The SL engine isn't that great, but, you can do some pretty cool stuff in that place. If you do a search for automobile you will find a lot! Like anything else, the quality of the model shows just how much effort you put into it. Frankly, I am looking to create a mascot in that world and use it for our club.

So, if you guys know where I can get a 3D model of the 240z (even 260 or 280z), I am all ears!! ;)
