A teenager was the first to unlock the iPhone so you can use it with any cell carrier instead of just AT&T. So some company offers him a new car in trade for the unlocked phone, and the kid picks a 350Z:

Come on man!!! The least you could have got was an Infiniti G37!

I wonder what kind of other type offers he is getting. Mostly school and job offers if any.

The tutorial is supposed to already be online to get this iPhone running with other services, so I am sure that he wouldn't have made much money off this thing.

Just that AT&T might be a little made at them. Maybe a little something something from Apple. LOL

can you hear it?

(rub rub rub)

That's the taxman's hands rubbing together waiting to deliver some fun news come early 2008....

Wonder if he'll sell the Z to pay for the taxes!

There may have been some unpublished deal to kick in enough cash to pay the taxes as well. I know that I was once offered a relocation package that included enough extra cash to cover the income tax. (and the tax on the extra cash...)

What would U.S. federal income taxes be on a $30K auto when the kid likely didn't have any significant income anyway? (He is a college student isn't he?)

Maybe $7K tops?

The article says the kid is 17. I bet he's still in high school and with enough time to hack an iPhone, Id be he doesn't have a job at all.

Wonder what kind of limitations they put on how much the car could be worth. It it was 35k or less, then I'd say he did alright. I would at least go for a Corvette or Viper.

2008 Viper all the way. :smoke:

Though the cell phone repair company, I bet really couldn't afford that much. I bet that a G37 would have been out of the price range.

I had rather of got a slightly used LS2 GTO instead of the 350z if he was in the $26k range.

After that car, it is still like he got $52/hour for his work. I had heard that it took him 500 hours to get the thing hacked.

I'm no accountant....but I bet his bank account might not have the cashto spare, unless his parents kick in for it. Who knows--he/his family may be loaded. But if he doesn't have that cash for income taxes (that doesn't even include payroll tax--double that if he claims to be self-employed as a "consultant") his sweet 350's gonna be sold to be pay the IRS!
