Posted August 30, 200717 yr comment_220087 Check out this listing:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170142796253&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=007It's for a "VINTAGE USA GRILLE BADGE FOR YOUR PORSCHE 356 911 914 "As I post this, the bids are up to $127.50 US by "icky-mickey", whom I suspect had a MAJOR attack of auction fever. Here's the description of that auction (since it won't last long on e-bay):VINTAGE USA GRILLE BADGE FOR YOUR PORSCHE 356 911 914 USA Coat Of Arms Eagle Mint Condition L@@K!<HR><!-- Begin Description -->This auction is for one rare vintage metal grille badge which has a Patent No. of 12233 on the back side and depicts the U.S.A. Coat Of Arms American Bald Eagle on the front with beautiful multi colored porcelain detail which is in beautiful lightly used vintage condition. The badge has a light age patina to the metal area surrounding the edges and the back side as well. It measures 3 3/4" across and has two fine threaded mounting screw posts located on the back side which have fine threads and are in excellent functionally usable condition. I do not have the original screws that came off the badge but these are readily available at any local hardware store. If you want to add some true class to your vintage ride then you will not want to let this vintage USA badge get away! This is a no reserve auction so enjoy the bidding and good luck! Winning bidder pays 4.85 for shipping at close of auction. Please be sure to check out the other vintage items that we currently have listed on Ebay as well. <!-- End Description -->Another fine auction brought to youFrom PawnDerToysTwo of the three pictures (the third was a closeup of the patent number) are shown below. Now, "What's so funny?" you may ask...well, check out this link which I won't need to copy and paste as they've been there a few years:http://www.myethnicpride.com/usabadges%20.htmlAND this one:http://www.hdrogers.com/carbadgesUS.htmlNow YOU tell me, how many Porch owners do you think we could get to bid that high? Or is this another way of saying, we have so much money we can be stupid in how we spend it?Heck, let's buy a new one, stick it out in the sun and rain, wait a few weeks and PRESTO-ZESTO a new antique piece!!!FWIWEeb badge front.bmpeb badge back.bmp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25363-e-bay-madness/ Share on other sites
August 30, 200717 yr Author comment_220089 I tried to add a couple of pictures but the 5 min. edit limit bit me (which is nuts since it can take up to a minute before the full page has loaded if you try to go to Advanced, it should be 15 min.). These are pics from the two sites that have been selling the car badges for years that I cited above. The last two pics are from the auction (I hadn't realized I had uploaded in BMP) sorry! August 31, 200717 yr comment_220121 Also interesting that a U.S. Patent # 12233 dates to the 1850's.... There weren't that many applications for them back then! August 31, 200717 yr comment_220128 The Porsche crowd might get wise to us after more than a couple. So the next ones needs to be marketed to Jaguar owners, then big Healys, then Ferraris...
