Posted August 7, 200222 yr comment_12204 Maybe getting the problem narrowed down. Tried to start the car with no success. Gas not getting to the filter. Blew out the fuel line to the tank, it bubbled nicely. Checked for a filter or pump near the tank-none. Put a gas line into a container of gas and the car started right up. Hooked up the lines and tried again-started right up. Any ideas? This could be something that acts intermittantly since in the past the car just acts like it has run out of gas. I am eager to solve this problem, almost ready to change my user name to "12manyz" Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2538-fuel-tank-continued/ Share on other sites
August 7, 200222 yr comment_12206 From what you have described, it sounds like you need to drop the tank.If the car will run on a small gas can, and will run after you blow out the fuel lines, then something is in the tank that is plugging the fuel pick up. The only way to fix it, is to drop the tank.Dropping the tank isn't too hard, but make sure you drain it completely and work in a very well ventilated area or preferrably outside. August 7, 200222 yr Author comment_12255 Actually it would not start after I blew the lines out. It only started after I supplied gas from a can. There is a clanking sound comming from the gas tank and the guage does not work. Is there a connection there? August 7, 200222 yr comment_12265 I had a problem once with the fibre sock that is in the tank over the end of the fuel pick-up. It had deteriorated and was clogging the pick-up -- some times.
