Posted September 11, 200717 yr comment_221323 Hey Guys and Gals - Just a few minutes ago looked out the window and what did I see by my garage? A cow and calf moose eating my trees. Happens several times a year. Check it out. Actually I think they were here for the purple flowers Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25512-moose-in-backdrop/ Share on other sites

September 11, 200717 yr Author comment_221384 Definately not cars - they are back again tonight. I had to scare them off ten minutes ago, they are eating the tips off my birch trees:ermm: It's not very scary at first, but when you get closer (20 feet) trying to drive them, time slows down some, it's a little un-nerving. September 12, 200717 yr Author comment_221396 Hey thanks Dan, she has flaws but they are not too noticable in the shot. I can get pretty flukey with a camera every now and then. September 12, 200717 yr comment_221400 I just thought it was amazing how one minute you had moose(s) (meese?), the next a Z.............................must be magic...Just be thankful that you are seeing them in your yard, not running along the road next to you as you drive (I speak from experience here). Nature in your yard is nice, nature in your face is not. September 12, 200717 yr Author comment_221402 They are the single biggest road hazard around here (other than crappy drivers), every year there are dozens of car/moose accidents. It would be a disaster to hit one in a Z, as you can imagine. These are relatively small. Still - nice to look at. September 12, 200717 yr comment_221406 Next time you need to scare them off, jump in that good looking red Z and burn some donuts around them. Should be easy in that nice green lawn (Maybe not) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25512-moose-in-backdrop/#findComment-221406 Share on other sites
September 23, 200816 yr Author comment_261442 Moose season again, buggers are back eating trees and as usual I am chasing them like a mad man with a stick (and a prayer that they are more frightened of me than I of them). Had four sightings in my yard over the past two weeks. 1000 lb tree trimmers. They are on the road this time of year and plentiful. People around here have to be very cautious at dusk and dawn cause thats when they are out on the roads for some reason. People who drive fast at these time are really taking their lives in thier hands. Here's an example of what happens - this guy was divided on the highway - looks like the front went through the windshield and the rest went somewhere else and landed in the stream beside the road. Imagine if you hit it in a Z at 70 or 80 mph. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25512-moose-in-backdrop/#findComment-261442 Share on other sites

One of the few days I've driven the Z to work and the sucker jumps out right in front of me from a wooded area on my road. I live out in the corn fields and they jump out from nowhere several times a year. I drive pretty slowly once the corn is too tall to see them anymore. It's scary and they're no where near as big as a moose. I can't wait for the harvest.Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25512-moose-in-backdrop/#findComment-261445 Share on other sites
September 23, 200816 yr comment_261455 As far as I can tell moose have no fear this time of year and like you say, prefer the open spaces of roadways between dusk & dawn. You don't want to corner one, especially a bull and they will charge if you threaten the cow. A friend (LES), who just retired and moved back to his childhood home on Cape Breton Island has a bull & cow frequenting his pond on occasion. The first time his wife, who is a southern girl, seen them it was early morning and they were in the garden next to the deck. She woke Les out of a sound sleep and told him she was going outside to pet them. By the time it sunk in what she said, he had to run, shouting out trying to stop her and fell flat on his arse going out the back door. The moose just stood there watching him without batting an eyelash. Beautiful animals, but equally dangerous and totally unpredictable. Take care Rick.
