Posted September 12, 200717 yr comment_221459 In my search for another Z, I am looking at 2-3 /week. From a distance my first glance at these Z's is exciting but the closer I get the worse I feel. These poor things are rusting away. Some of these cars have been sitting for years and it just saddens me to see such a great car rusting away beyond recovery...at least with my skills. Texas heat is brutal on the interiors too.One of these days I'll find the right one. I need to take my camera along with me on my search. Document these cars....Anyway- it's sad to see great cars just dieing a slow death. September 12, 200717 yr comment_221460 Its sad..but look on the bright side it means that there are less and less of them out there which makes the value go up! So my 240z should hopefully be worth a lot someday! September 12, 200717 yr comment_221462 Please take some pics if you can. Some of the cleanest parts I've bought have been from guys in Texas who told me they were rusty. Everything rusts up here, so my standards are a little lower! September 14, 200717 yr comment_221620 There's nothing to be sad about. You buy a car you cut the rust out and then you have a rust free car. In the process you have saved another Z car from the grips of the junk yard. It's a machine and like machines as opposed to us they can go on forever if you replace and you take care. With the human being no matter what you do eventually the grim reeper comes knocking at the door. That's why they make floor pans and fenders and quarters and dog legs and rocker panels and why there are internet auction sites. You can pretty much take any rusted out Z car and transform it back pretty close. I would be more concerned about people who rust away and we can't do a damn thing about it. September 29, 200717 yr comment_223050 I have heard of a fellow who has a rusted out piece of junk. But he is restoring it and I am sure it will great when he is done with it. $70,000.00 later. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25522-sad-to-see-all-these-beautiful-zs-rustin-away/#findComment-223050 Share on other sites
September 29, 200717 yr comment_223055 [quote=ArnieTX;2292 Anyway- it's sad to see great cars just dieing a slow death. It may be sad , but maybe your expectations are a little high for a 35 year old car. September 29, 200717 yr comment_223062 I suppose, but it also depends on where you liveI'm in arizona, so i expect a nearly rust free car. surface rust is ok, but i expect to have nearly 0 cancerous rust that i'd have to cut out. You on the other hand, live up north, where there would be more rust, so my standard would be expecting too much compared to yours (whether or not that's true, i don't know. I just used it as an example) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25522-sad-to-see-all-these-beautiful-zs-rustin-away/#findComment-223062 Share on other sites
September 29, 200717 yr comment_223083 Speaking of rusting away. Look at the mess I was confronted with today when I removed the fibreglass flares. Think I must be nuts to be continuing this job Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25522-sad-to-see-all-these-beautiful-zs-rustin-away/#findComment-223083 Share on other sites
