MSA "Bullet" mirror installed

I want to fit similar mirrors and have a pair of light alloy 'Downton' bullet mirrors just waiting.

I tend to agree with Geezer (being one myself) that they should be a little more forward.

A quick and dirty edit of BadDog's pic shows the look I'm after:

Cheers,

Thanks yellazed, that's better than mounting them and then deciding you don't like it. They look just as good moved forward (to me anyhow). It would get a little boring if every car was exactly the same. Batman wouldn't have been nobody without his car!LOL

Well, I have to admit... I don't care for them. But that's where we get back to the "It's your car" thing. I personally just don't think that the look of the mirror fits the Z. It just goes back to that whole personal choice thing, my choice just happens to be the fender mirrors or the stock mirror. My car currently has the Vitatoni black plastic ones that I also don't care for. I also think that a more forward mounting position would be more astheticly pleasing.

This is the USA... but at the same time this is the Internet... hmmm, perplexing... :ermm: If I was sitting in London this would be the UK, the USA and the WWW. So I guess this is "everywhere". So where we really are at is the Classic Zcar Club.

So ol' mckrack said he doesn't like them and they should be removed, well that's his take on it. I really don't see a problem with the original comment. It's not like he said "you're an idiot for putting them on". So whatever. Now some of the later retalitory comments were more heated than they needed to be from both sides... again whatever. Can't we all just get along? So my suggestion to everyone is... If you don't like what someone else types, just let it go.

So all that being said... Hey BadDog... We're only like an hour away from each other... we should get together for a beer or something sometime... send me a PM if you're interested.

I must say I like the mirrors up on the fenders but I would never put them there on my car. I love my car. When I look at it it reminds me of days gone by. Memories flood back in. Where I was what I was doing who I was with, how much pot I was smoking. Great era, great time. Billet Mirrors would ruin the whole thing for me.

I don't mean to throw a wrench but are those mirrows upside down :ermm:

I always thought (on the fender mounted ones anyway) the tall side

of the ring that surrounds the Mirrow Glass was supossed to be on the top.

Tell you the truth I like it either way now I see it the way you

have it, it looks pretty sleek (and or slick :D).

What tire and rim size you running Baddog, thats the look I'm going for.

Sic Z Design Bro :classic:, BIG UPS YO, BIG UPS :D

Nice photo chop BTW yellazed!

I do believe the original Fairlady had bullet mirrors up on the fenders. To me, however, those mirrors are much too far away to be useful.

One of the original bullet mirrors was seen on Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing. It's made by Talbot and been very popular for other cars as well. I hope to pick up a set of Talbot's sometime, but, they are pretty expensive.

I also believe the original Talbot bullet was 4" diameter. These new ones are 3.5".... I'd love to get the bigger ones!

BTW: I cleaned up this thread and removed off topic posts.

Wow, I don't check the thread for 2 days and apparently I missed a lot! :-D

McKrack - Yes, I did ask for opinions so I'll take what comes. Don't worry, you didn't ruin it for me. You like my car but not the mirrors. You didn't say they detract from your liking the car, so I guess it's safe to say they don't "ruin" it for you... I like them; I don't think they distract the eye, they're a subtle addition. To me, the pitted old mirror was more of a negative...

Yellazed - Yes, it might be nice if they were a little more forward, but I'm not about to do all my body and paint work all over again to accomplish that LOL. If someone was putting these on an unfinished car, that's another story. In deciding on placement though, I'd be careful not to get too close to the base of the A-pillar - 1) balance: that's a lot of chrome for one spot, and 2) they might resemble cop-car spotlights too much in that location :-D Your Photochop doesn't look 1 or 2 could be the case because of the angle of original photo, but at a less flattering angle, who knows...

kray-z-1 - They're chromed metal. The mirror themselves hodl their position well. You can adjust how "tight" you want them to be.

dade 280 - Possibly, but that could get tricky as they are slightly convex.

Coastguard Z - That's cool, again: I asked for opinions :-D I've basically asked "what do you think of my mirrors on my car". If I has asked "how do you think my car looks", not drawing attention to the mirrors, I have a feeling I wouldn't get too many negative comments about the mirrors themselves. I didn't post before-and-after photos for the side stripes, and I suspect I would've gotten comments going both ways there was well. Personally, I think the black stripes on the silver car really "set off" the wheel/tire combo :D Yeah, we should meet up sometime. Actually, I think I met you at my club's show in Syracuse right after you got your car. It was probably 4 years ago, the summer before I started on my re-paint process.

WingZr0 - Upside down? I guess you're referring to a photo in someone else's post that got taken down? Anyway, the tires, if I remember correctly, are 225-60-14's, the wheels are 7" wide. I couldn't drive her today though, so I'd have to check later to make sure... I've also got Tokico HP struts and springs, so she's also a little lower than "stock"....

Exdamyankee - Thanks, and good luck w/your car!

That's fine, I guess, but it kind of kills the continuity of the thread by making the comments that followed based on the off topic posts seem strange.

Thanks, but, I'd rather keep the main point of this thread on subject rather than dilute it with a bunch of bickering. I won't edit posts, but, I will remove them. :)

This is BadDog's thread, so, I can give him the choice to undelete the other threads. My only objection is this thread will remain in our archives indefinitely, so, future users will need to weed through the garbage just to get to the point.
