Broken in....

Last night my 73 Z was sitting on street in front of my house....it was broken into for the cheapo JVC stereo. The shitty part is that they damaged my passenger door lock to get in...which really sucks considering I KNOW I forgot to lock the driver's side door last night. A real moron for sure. I have never had any problems on my street in the past, and maybe this is just a freak one time thing. The good thing is that I left the removal tools that came with the stereo in the car, they did not damage anything removing which is good. It is easy to buy a new stereo but not so easy to buy the bezel. I will get a new unit and take the face off nightly from now on. Just venting.

PM me on the JVC head unit you have, model and age? The one I had was not expensive, got it on base at Miramar, it was IPOD ready with a little remote.

I would not mind if the broke the lock if the car was locked but it was openned. I have a new lock set I was going to install sooner or later, now I will do it sooner. I will have to work the twisted medal hopefully not too much paint comes off.

5 years ago i was in New York visiting a friend and they broke into my Sentra for a crappy cassette player ... I bought it specificaly because it was crap and wasn't a tempation to steel ... worst part was they stole about 800 dollars of bicycle parts that were in the trunk (chainrings and cogs for a special single speed bike I had) ... the police laughed when i told them the radio was 50 new and cassette. The broken window and replacement of the power window controls was also a huge pain in the rear ... i feel your pain.

While that does indeed blow something terrible, at least the damage was minimal.

If I were you, I would look into a head unit that is HD capable. You will be able to get much better sound from it, assuming you have any radio stations broadcasting in your area.

I might also suggest getting a block off plate for your stereo slot and finding another place to mount the stereo (glove box comes to mind). If you are going to use your mp3 player most of the time, changing stations would not be an issue.

Of course, if you were to get a head unit that has a remote control, you might be able to leave the glove box open and use it that way.

Just an idea.

I got from work, I did a more indepth damage assesment, it turns out they damaged the bezel more that I intially thought. I have a brand new one on the shelf in the garage but it is not for a 73 which sucks. I guess I can live with the damage but the damage to the door luck area is worst than I first thought. It is in real bad shape. The tore the sheet metal real bad....which sucks real bad considering again...the damn drivers side door was UNLOCKED! Oh well no ever said thieves were smart.

Oh well no ever said thieves were smart.

When I had my Datsun roadster, some idiot broke into it by cutting a slash in the soft top. I always left the doors unlocked when I had the soft top on it since if they were locked all someone would have to do is push the side of the soft top in and unlock the door. And they stole my vertical mount stereo. Unless you had a 68-70 Datsun roadster or a Chevy Citation (remember those?) that unit is pretty useless.
