Any 5-speeds in the NW?

To 76Datsun280z, if you are near Spokane, Wa, Pull and Save has more than a couple in their yard. $50 each, but save a couple for me. If that's not an option look for an 82-84 Maxima. They are direct bolt-ins you just have to bend the shifter back a little to clear the floor opening. The speedo gearing is even the same. I did it to my 76 and 100 mph in third is quite thrilling, not to mention dropping 800 rpm at 60mph. Hope this helps. Dan

Rockr69 is that the same pick and pull next to Spaldings? I know Spaldings only has cars that are newer than our first gen Zs, but they might have some 280ZXs in the pull and save yard next door. For $50 I might pick up a spare next time I'm in Spo-Cane.

Thanks, Spokane would be a bit of a drive, but if it comes down to it, I may have to check into it. I'm going to call some wrecking yards around here to see if they would have anything like that first, but I'll have to check into that if I can't find anything around here. I have that same problem that you had, 3500rpm going 65-70 is just to much for my tastes.:ermm:

EDIT: wow, $50.00 each?? Are they crap? If so, maybe you could pick one up and I could meet you and pay you for it.

Just use the shifter from your 76. I used the shifter from my 78 5 speed when I put the 83 5 speed in it and it clears with no problem. The Maxima shift lever has some strange bends like my 810. I could see it being a problem in a Z.

to Go240Zags-yes and occasionaly I've found GenI cars there not in any shape to write home about though.

To Austen, I replied to your PM

and to Stephen, you are right. Thereason I didn't use my 4 spd stick was at the time I didn't know it would interchange and I didn't have any bushings for it. ( I was still a new hand at all this Z stuff-damned Zs)

I know this won't help you, Austen, but I just pulled a 77-79 type California type 5 speed (three sensors) from my 810 and replaced it with a 83 ZX 5 speed. Anyone who wants the old trans can have it but it's noisy and would need a refresh. Pick up only.
