You mean you've never seen a convertible Z before. It was a factory option...

And if you beleive that then I've got some other stuff I'd like to sell you.

Years ago I had a friend who visited New York. He came back with quite a story and having seen the first convertible Z. (Quite possibly the first) All I could think was "WHY would anyone want to do that?? Maybe a tree fell on it or there was some severe hail damage.

Maybe he rolled off a hill while driving the dragon:)

It's really funny because the guys at work joke about stealing my Z and cutting the top off. I'm not going to drive the car for a month then take them this pic and say "See what I did!" And they are all going to cry because deep inside they love my Z.

Personally, I like a well done convertible conversion though I know it isn't to everyone's liking.

To digress a little: Some cars are perfect as hardtops, and loose that special something when the top is chopped off; be it by the company or private individual.

Two cars that I think loose in the conversion are the newer models (2002 forward) of the Jaguar xk and the Audi TT. The hardtops are gorgeous, the soft tops decidedly less so...

Others, like our beloved Z cars, look great both ways, so long as the conversion is done right. This one seems to have been done quite well.

There was a very well done convertable at both Zfest in Orlando and the Autoway show I went to-pretty car!

I just saw one the other day that had the corvette/ferrari style Headrest area in the trunk mold.

Kind of hard to explain but the roll bar that went behind each seat, was in between the seats and the fiberglass trunk mold, with a lifted area behind each seat.

Looked very nice and had that Italian ferrari/Lamborgini look to it. But I'm not normally to keen on the convertable Z. It's beautiful as a hard top.

That's exactly like the one I saw, It's a beautiful speciman of a convertable 240Z. I love the Italian look, and I think corvette did something similar to it this year.

Love the hidden wiper cowl as well.

Call the CDC! It's an epidemic!!!

I don't much care for the convertible conversion, but that's purely personal taste. I feel the car was built as a hardtop coupe and it just looks "right" that way.

Ztherapy sells a couple "How To" videos on converting the Z into a drop top.

It seems like you would have to add a lot of body stiffeners to make up for the structure that you lose by taking the roof off.

How would anyone feel safe in that. I greatly enjoy the security (or at least the sense of security) of knowing there is some steel above my head ready to crush it as opposed to it grinding away on the tarmac.
