Posted September 24, 200717 yr comment_222644 I got my tank off the car yesterday and it had about a 1/4 tank of gas that was left in it since 1988. The tank is gunked up and and rusty. I power washed it and got a good bit of stuff out of it, but it still looks nasty. The only product I've found that looks decent is the POR-15 kit. I've looked for a replacement tank, but none of the aftermarket companies show them in inventory (72 240z). Motorsport shows the tank marked with an A which I guess means it may or may not be in stock. Would I be better off to try and find a decent tank, or use the POR-15? September 24, 200717 yr comment_222650 Here is a link to a tank refurbishing page I made. It's dangerous work and is best entrusted to a shop or Renu.http://warbuddies.homestead.com/gastank.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25658-gas-tank/#findComment-222650 Share on other sites
September 24, 200717 yr comment_222651 You can refurb your tank with the Por-15, but I'd first have it boiled out at a radiator shop and pressure tested for leaks before doing so. Lots of information on gas tanks, trying doing a quick search. September 24, 200717 yr comment_222706 I had my tank epoxied by a local radiator shop. They did a good job, so you might be able to find someone local as well. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25658-gas-tank/#findComment-222706 Share on other sites
September 25, 200717 yr comment_222727 Hey Dave--- Noticed your in Siloam Springs----I'm over in Bentonville. I just took my 7/70 tank to TNT radiator in Springdale. They said it was too big to fit their boil-out tank. They didn't seem to want to do it anyway--- I'll be calling around to see what shops will consider it. If I get a good response I'll let you know. Otherwise i'll do it myself with the POR-15 kit. :nervous: Keep in touch----there aren't too many of us 240 ArkieZ'z around these parts. Jim D. November 17, 200717 yr Author comment_228847 Here's an update. I took my tank and radiator to Rogers Radiator and Garage and he hot tanked em both and pressure checked them. The gas tank was fine, but the radiator has a bad seam at the top. He said he couldn't get an aftermarket and it was $350 to re-core my unit. The tank however came out great. You can see the red sealant inside and some of the rust under it, but looks coated very well. They charged me $135 to hot tank, pressure check both of em, and coat the tank. I'll try and get some pictures posted. Thanks for the input!Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25658-gas-tank/#findComment-228847 Share on other sites
November 17, 200717 yr comment_228848 Might want to PM Arne on the radiator. He has a new one that might have been clear around the block a couple of times. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25658-gas-tank/#findComment-228848 Share on other sites
November 17, 200717 yr comment_228850 Yeah, the brand new 3 row core radiator I put in my yellow '71 240Z has all of about 50 miles on it. I will probably be pulling it out of the car to sell in the next few weeks. November 17, 200717 yr comment_228872 I have the POR-15 tank treatment and the JTR Radiator in my 280Z. I like the JTR it keeps the car colder than the Stock radiators do.
