September 24, 200717 yr comment_222705 Check out the ROUND flanges on the SUs!I have never seen flanges like that on a 240Z in any picture. Are those really early 4 screws, or do you think they were originally on something else? September 24, 200717 yr comment_222708 I checked the VIN of the other parts car again and it is #10989, which should make it a 9/70 according to the Zhome.com registery (not a 7/70), so I guess I was off by a couple of months on that one.-MikeI knew it had to be something like. The 70's went up as far as 10,999 from what I've observed and been told. usually anything 11k and up is a 71' but then again, that all runs into the dealership problem of "sell it like it's next years model" Too bad those idiots did'nt know the problems they caused back then for us trying to keep track of what is what.Congrats again Mike, Me and Leah will come up someday soon. Do you work at the UW hospital or something like that?Dave. And what's up with those round flange carbs? gimme a hint, original? September 24, 200717 yr comment_222709 Check out the ROUND flanges on the SUs!I noticed that, too. Neato.....Was the original air box on the car, or was some other kind of filter setup being used, something that necessitated the round flanges? September 25, 200717 yr comment_222724 Very good Mike!! I think we all know now that you'll be here at http://www.classiczcars.com for a while to come! We can't wait to see what you post up about as you go through these and begin the restoration/s---first off concerning those flanges! Also, my 7/70 is Vin #07032 to help confirm what has already been said by Dave and BRE-240. :classic: Let us all know if you are swamped with early parts you don't need---yeah sure----or if there is something you need----some of us may have it!! Anywhoo---all the best to you and don't forget to borrow Gary's spindle puller!! Jim D. September 25, 200717 yr Author comment_222730 Thanks guys. Yes, I'm sure I will continue to have lots of questions. Those are the original 69 carbs. The round flanges look to be attachments for some type of air cleaner that was not stock. They just attach with a couple of screws it looks like. I'll keep you updated on my progress with the cars.-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25659-just-bought-331-and-two-parts-cars/?&page=2#findComment-222730 Share on other sites
September 26, 200717 yr comment_222774 My 01/70 built Z has a defroster electrical grid in the hatch glass. SN 00721. Can't help with the SU discussion, as mine've been gone for 30 years in favor of Mikuni-Solexes. Can anyone say whether a 7 CW crank will drop into a 5 CW crank block ('70) with zero problems? I'm considering that in order to turn the motor a bit faster than 7 grand. But I'm conflicted in desecrating a numbers-matching motor, too.
