1971 240 Z - Driver's Seat

Thanks everyone. Back from the shop, and brakes are at 70% front and 50% back, which sounds good to me. Now regarding the seats, another whole story. I went out there tools in hand and worked on and off for a couple of days and just can't get the bottom of the driver's seat out, which is the only part that needs help. I'm hoping when my husband returns, he can give it a go. Any other hints are very much appreciated. All the rest of the seats look great, as seen here:

There are only four nuts that hold the seat studs and thus the seats to the seat mounting points in the floor - which holds the entire seat to the floor. All you have to do is take the four nuts off - along with any of the plastic spacers under the floor mounting points - off and lift the entire seat out...

Once the seat is out of the car - it's easy to take the side braces that hold the seat back and seat bottom together.

Thank you very much. My hubby got it out for me and disassembled it. WOW, what a complex seat setup. Clearly need to get some replacement things for the driver seat bottom. But also need to figure out what some of the things actually are.

In post #3 Arne provided the answer: the elastic webbing that supports the seat cushion. The webbing deteriorates over time leaving the useless melted mess that you currently have. If you did nothing else to the seat replacing the webbing would raise your seating position in the car.

This just happens to be where I bought my seat covers, foam, and webbing but you can certainly find all of these elsewhere.

The only complaint about them is that someone specifically signed up for their mailing list by providing an e-mail address, and later got spam. I can't see how they can claim the spam was a directly a result of DatsunRestore.com unless they generated a unique email just for that site. If it was the site's fault it may be that they accidentally sent out the email notification with all customers on the "to" or "cc" line which is a bad thing to do. How many times have friends and family forwarded something to you and 20 other people at the same time? That's a sure way to get your email address in the wild. They should only "bc" you.

Any any case just visiting the site to look at pictures of the webbing can't hurt you. It's not like there's any malware or phishing attempt involved.

Went to Ace Hardware, purchased some 2" webbing in a roll and grip locks, LOVE IT! Made my 4 connectoids which were GREAT, and used the original hardware hooks which are slick/work with the connectoids (webbing strips) to the seat frame. Worked great so far...

So surprised to realize (rediscover) I have two metal bars and a center strip coming out of the chair cover itself (original)..... what the heck is that all about? Thought I got it, didn't yet. Need to figure out how to connect it.

The original looked like it was melted in outer space; spooky! It was gnarled and unrecognizable, like it had been scortched. Too strange.

Whew, two weeks later and feeling old and creaky, did get the seat happy again. Talk about creative energy. Who'd have thought?

I hasten to add, this is my Bro's car and I'm helping him sell it. Wanted to keep as much of the original as possible, minimize cost to keep the selling price down. Sure feels good to sit in this puppy now vs. B4.
