280z going for over 6,000 on ebay ...

I ran across this today ... a 1977 280z going for over 6,000USD on Ebay. I know good 240's will hit this range, but for a 280z I never thought it was possiable (in it's current condition). It's well kept, but still has rust here and there and carpet that is discolored. Just thought I would share this interesting find.

Pretty clean and original looking with a few dealer add on type items. Even has what appears to be a period correct aftermarket stereo maybe even an 8track tape. But it's an Automatic. And the seller say it has 'leather interior'.

The 280Z is a great car - what can you find today for six grand that is better. If she is what she appears to be, it's a great deal.

"BUT" For me, I would not bid 10 cents till I saw the undercarriage, floors, framerails, battery tray, hatch closure ...... . No matter how it looks, it's an east coast car.

I agree, I have one :cheeky:

I might have left the impression I thought this price was to high for the car ... I think it's about spot on for it's market value. I was just surprised at the price as I have seen some VERY clean, partially refurbished 240's go for less.

I'm glad to see this car going for this price, it means the mean market value of our cars is going up ... it also means spare parts, parts cars and the like will go up in value and most likely cost .

I miss being in the US and having a ready supply of easy to find (well at least cheaply mail ordered parts) for our S30 cars ... here in Europe, it's slim pickings ...

Greg,

Good, clean, rust free, low mileage 240Z's are going for more than $6K now, unless they are going to need major work like a paint job, etc. If this was a 240Z in the same condition, I would expect it to fetch into the teens. Excellent condition low vin 240Z's (and Vintage Z program cars) are selling in the 30's and higher these days.

What do you guys think of this one? I know this statement will generate some disagreement but I've yet to see a 240Z worth this asking price. I don't care who built it or how much was put into it, it just ain't worth that kind of money. At least, not to me.

I saw that ad yesterday. Looks like a great job, a little over kill on all the red in my opinion, but sweet nonetheless. But $45 LARGE??? No thanks! 1/2 that? Maybe, if I had alot cash lying around, but then on 2nd thought, I would just rebuild one the way I wanted it to be for that kinda jack.

But dont get me started on Ebay car sales...my 77 280 I got 2 weeks ago has turned into a HUGE mistake on my part! Yes, I am kicking myself. I had bought 3 vehicles prior, all with great results...but this theiving con man broke one off in me and then some...I am currently waiting for Ebay to conclude looking into it, but in speaking with a rep, I dont think their fraud dept. is going to be of much help. If anyone wants to know all the gory details, I could use a good venting but then I will have to hear all the comments about knowing better :)

Not to nit pick, but for 45k, I want some windshield wipers! I noticed they were taken off for the nicer photos I looked at ... :lick:

I think it *might* get 40k at one of the big auto auctions ... put some nice flash chrome wheels on there (the red matched ones are overkill in my opinion) and it could do well. It's certainly a show car ...

The car is worth what someone is willing to pay ... there are people out there that love these cars from their youth and want a flash looking one without all the restoration hassles ... this is how the big dollars are gained for the cars of that era ...
