Anyplace within about 100 miles of Portland, OR where I can get a new or reconditioned gas tank for a 1972?

They MIGHT have one. They have a ton of Z's from all years, but the gas tank is a known part that is either crushed, rusted, or it's sold.

I called Mac's Radiator in Portland. They will do the job for around $200.00. But, they cannot replace the fiber filter, if it is there. How necessary is this filter? Is it necessary to install another gas filter if the fiber filter is not replaced?

Check it out ebay.com has one for sale the bid ends in like 8 days or so. Think high bid now is 50 bucks or so. Junk yards usually punch holes in gas tanks to drain fuel for safety reasons. Is your tank leaking? I had that problem but i fixed it my self. Let me know if you wanna hear how i did this.

POR 15 has a fuel tank repair kit they sell if your tank needs repair.
