Planning a Poker Run

I didn't get to finish what I was typing before.

A poker run is a kind of rally- not a "race!" You follow a map or directions to a number of stops (driving within the posted speed limits, or according to the instructions) where you pick up 5 playing cards to make up a poker hand. You may also be expected to answer questions or even collect some things (leaf, rock, soda bottle, etc.) at certain points on the route. At the end of the run (or the day) the person with the best hand wins something. You can win money, a trophy, prizes, etc.

what I wanted to know was some preferences for getting your poker cards:

Would you be willing to put up some money, like an entry fee, for a chance to win the whole pot, or just go for a trophy, a plaque or prizes?

Would you rather get all 5 cards while on the rally route? Sometimes you can get one card before you start the route, and three or 4 more cards on the route, then the last one back at the end.

The rules for the run are currently being drafted. Entrants may be required to depart the starting area after a certain time, and arrive back within a certain time frame. There may be as many as 4 stops on the route, with one being a stop to play kind of challenging game.

Tomahawk - We had one at our 2001 Z Convention in Kingston, ON. I don't remember a specific prize per se, although the top 3 finishers most likely received a plaque/trophy (and bragging rights). It's your club's call on how you want to hand out the cards, etc.

The purpose of our run was to allow participants the chance to explore the backroads of eastern Ontario, and we included lunch and tourist shopping on the route.

Thanks, Gordon,

The start & finish area will be wherever we decide to put it. It could be at the convention site, or maybe somplace close by. Just for Dade280, the start will be in Fort Kent, ME, and the finish will be in Fairbanks, AK...

Trophies or plaques are the usual thing. There are lots of options you can do about entry requirements, and there might be an option to put in some cash, to buy a card or as a prize.
