Sure does need alot of work. One for the low vin loving guys.

I expect you could get a higher vin Z in pretty good condition for that price.

VINs aren't everything, particularly in this case....if it really has a 2.6 in it, then a lot of its value is lost in lacking matching numbers for the engine.

Very true, though...one could get a MUCH better starting point for restoration with that kind of money.

The ad says 2.6 but the valve cover is vin correct.

They probably just kept the original valve cover when they replaced the engine. When I bought #331, it had the original numbers matching block and the 2400 valve cover, but the E31 head had been replaced with a later E88 at some point.

What would the engine number be on number 59?

If you look at Carl's zhome.com site you will see that the early engine numbers were not consecutive with the VINs, and there was a fairly wide range. Probably between 2100 and 2400 would be my guess, but it could even be a couple hundred higher.
