Starting Issue.

This I'm sure has been covered here before but I did make the effort to search for it.

I got a 1978 280z three days ago that was impounded for not being current with registration back in 2000. Since then it was sitting in a toe yard. The owner said it ran when the put it there.

Now here the issue. It won't start, i know i know it was sitting for eight years but come on, its a Z. New gas, plugs are sparking, a fuel line right above the injector was leeking (which is now fixed) so its getting gas, and it cranks like a champ. Ive talked to one guy about it and he says maybe its the fuel pump and its just not getting enough fuel pressure. Im not new to Z's but i am new to 280's so I idea what to look for. Anyone?

Cranks but won't start :ermm:, plugs wires are wrong at the

Dizzy (Distrubutor Cap) cap.

Try making sure the firing order is right then try it again.

Should start right up.

Also make sure you plugs wires are in the right order at

the Sparkers (Spark Plugs).

I'm sure I'm problely wrong here about the engine still cranking with

dizzy plugs in wrong order but I think thats what my '77 was doing

when I re installed my plugs wrong after running a compression test.

Car would'nt start till I got the plug order right on the Dizzy cap.

hell yah man thanks. ill research the order and get back to you

No problem Homes.

Just to note the pic may have for example #2 plug in the 11" o'clock position but it may be in the

12 or 10 o'clock position depending on how the dizzy has been rotated or angle installed.

Just keep in mind the order is the same so pull the plugs and move them farword or

backward to the next plug one at a time untill you get the set up that will start.

Here goes the firing for my Z and most likey yours form my Chiltons Repair manual.

Clockwise order from left to right on the dizzy cap starting at 1 o'clock position is

Sparker (Spark Plug) #6, 3, 5, 1, 4, 2.

So Sparker #6 goes to the Dizzy plug at 1 o'clock.

The sparker at the back of the engine closet to the firewall is number 6 with Sparker #1 being

the closet to the front of the car.

Ok, on my Z at least If your standing on the drivers side fender facing and

looking across the enigne then 12 o'clcok will face the engine,

3 o'oclock is facing the windshield, 9 o'clock is the facing the front of the car

and 6 o'clcok is facing you and the front wheel drivers side.

If that don't work then rotate the plugs in one direction untill you try all

6 possible starting points.

be sure your sparkers are connected to the correct wires again.

If that don't work then we have a sitiuation :ermm:

question. the order is right... now would the wires on the dizzy being in the wrong place change the actual pattern the pistons would fire in? ie say the #6 wire is not in the 1 o clock... says its on the other side .... im only asking because i dont know where your standing when you say 1 o clock.
