so I'm planning to get an S30 Z! 240 or 280?

Well guys, as many told me before few mounths that I'll regret selling my Z..

YES I DO! I had some toughts of buying a 1971 corvette but it is out of my budget, besides I have to learn much about them..

since I know Z's well enough to have one, the question is, shall I go for a 240Z or a 280Z?

I know the differences, but I never used a 240.

is the body weaker since it is lighter? will it "twist" while jacking from one side?

the only dissapointment for me will be the bumpers of the 280Z, other than that I consider it better since I always thaught that it have more solid body and EFI is reliable.. besides it has a rear sway bar.

I'm not trying to be offensive against the 240's but for those who owed bothe.. what could be the best choise?

I would really appreciate some wise answers, because I fel mad now without a Z.. and I need to get a better Z than I had before.

Hi Mohamed - I feel your pain :) I sold my 240 years ago and regretted it for 20 years, a couple of years ago I bought a 280, mostly because it was just a great deal, but I quicky found out it was a great car. I still wish to have a 240, but the fuel injected 6 is a pleasure to own and though the car is heavier, it still pulls very nicely.

You can't go wrong either way, they are both very nice cars - In my opinion.

Mohamed, you already know a great deal about the EFI system in our cars. How much do you know about carbs, especially dual or triple systems? If you want to learn about carbs, I'd say go for a 240-you have all the resources for learning about them here.

It's a tough call...how about one of each?

BTW-did you sell the M?

Get a 280Z and replace the front end with the 240Z style. I did it with my 75. The 240Z turn signal lights look much better than the 280Z in the grill type. At least in my opinion. Never was much of a fan of the stock 280Z front ends.

well David, I have no experience about the carbs at all, I have no problem with learning them.. all I need to know is which can be more reliable and easier to maintain as a classic, I even thaught of mounting carbs on a 280Z, but I can't imagine the result..

having both, I don't think so, the reason that made me forget about the vette is my budget that I couldn't increase because people over here are afraid from the ///MPower!

so I decided to keep ot since it is in mint condition, and buy a worthy S30.

the most the I hate in the 280Z is the bumpers, both front and rear, they are too big, and eleminating them is not a good deal as I had before..

and finnding a 240Z facia is hard also, I don't have the time to go to kuwait and buy parts from chpped Z's from Aus..

Nota280,

I'll do it I guess, but I would like to keep the front turn signals in the grill, I don't have any problem with them:)

from the States to Bahrain, I don't want a Z from here, very few are those which worth it.. coz guys here don't know how to maintain a Z!

I'd like to have one from Texas or Arizona where are the best Z's as far as I heared.

coz spare parts are not available here for S30's unless you order them (which I know how to do it)

I have found the best condition Zs are coming from California or Arizona - I think the coastal regions of Texas have more rust issues (hurricanes and floods don't help either). Biggest Z issue would have to be body rust - for me if I can get a solid body I can figure out the rest.

If you are going to use it as a transportation vehicle, the 280, with its fuel injection and factory electronic ignition is likely to be the better choice.

But that is strictly your call. In either case, from what I have heard about the weather in Bahrain I gather that if you want to keep paint on the car you need to park it indoors. But then you know the situation there better than I ever will.

No offense intended. I meant it to be funny. Here we have salt on the road all winter that rusts out the entire car. There I gather that you have sand storms? (Someone I knew who lived there at one time talked about it raining mud...)

Sandstorms, I wish we had those here i would just take my tarp off let it get sandblasted :). If you are concerned about the bumpers i have read from plenty of people that retrofitted the old school bumpers or euro bumpers. Didnt seem like it was too hard.
