Posted October 16, 200717 yr comment_224785 So I finally got around to posting pictures of my z. Got her maybe 2 months ago. My first car and of course first z, build date 2/73. Learned a lot about the car since buying it. I fell in love with these little cars about a year ago and had to have one. The previous owner did a pretty good just fixing it up. I've had to do some little things to her. But over all it hasn't been so bad. Pretty much mechanically she is stock, not the original engine but it's from another 73 240z. So just thought I would share my car and maybe get some ideas for things to do to her, shes not going to be an original restore so pretty much anything goes, keep in mind she's my daily driver. Also don't think I will ever be able to drive another kind of car again, and I didn't even know how to drive stick when I bought her. October 16, 200717 yr comment_224786 Where in Oregon do you live, Dustin? There's lots of us Z owners here, but most of us are older than our cars. October 16, 200717 yr comment_224790 Dustin, welcome to our little corner of the world. Like Arne said there are several of us infected by the virus here in Or. I also have a '73 but have done what I want , mostly , with my Z. Congrats. on the ''new'' car and unfortunately you are now infected and there is no cure. you are fortunate in that it took me over 30 years to acquire my Z. October 16, 200717 yr comment_224804 I assume bumpers aren't required in Oregon? Not that 240Z bumpers are anything more than comestic pieces anyway...... Welcome to the site. My Z is my first car too. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25878-my-first-car-and-z-73-240z/#findComment-224804 Share on other sites
October 16, 200717 yr comment_224825 nice car!, my first car was a Z also. A 75 280z 2+2. Yeah I know the 2+2's are hideous, but I wanted a Z. Anyway mine wasn't nearly that nice and broke down on me the first night I drove it, but I loved that car anyway. I'm only 25 now and have had 4 Z's and counting. Good luck, and again nice Z. October 17, 200717 yr Author comment_225055 Honestly I have no clue about the bumper legality in Oregon. But at the moment I have around 300 to spend on the car. Anyone have some good ideas? Looking to make her a bit more drive-able and economic but performance and cosmetic upgrades are not out of the question. October 17, 200717 yr comment_225059 I would concentrate on safety items first, brakes, steering, handling. Then maybe go over all the hoses checking for leaks or dry rot. A tuneup if needed. Just good general maintainance. These cars have a tendency to let you know what they need. If there is anything left from your $300. don't let her know about it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/25878-my-first-car-and-z-73-240z/#findComment-225059 Share on other sites
October 17, 200717 yr comment_225061 My first car that I bought was my 1971 240z. Lovely cars and I know that I will be keeping this baby for a long time.I would say, get ride of that points distributor with an electric one. Will make the car run better, some say it gives you an HP increase, and makes the car more reliable. Then, Toyota 4x4 calipers for the front. Give you increased stopping power which is always good to have. Then a front and rear strut bar. There is a lot more that I would do to the car, but those are the three main things that I would do first.Love the car, and enjoy it as long as you can! October 17, 200717 yr Author comment_225070 I just had my brakes and steering redone and mostly replaced cost about $600, it was just a nightmare in short most everything was bad.All but one of the pistons in my two calipers was frozen so good to have that done.
