240zGraham73 Posted October 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2007 This morning when I was driving to school I turn the heater on and the fan starts making this loud annoying pinging noise. I know its the fan because I tested it on the vent too, same noise and the pinging increases speed as I turn the knob up higher. Any ideas, is my fan dying? geezer Posted October 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2007 There are only two possible causes I can think of. Brush friction on the commutator surface of the blower motor is one. This is caused by deteriation of the brushes over time. The other cause could be any type of debris that has found its way to the blower cage. To find the problem and fix it you will more than likely have to remove the blower motor. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
EScanlon Posted October 17, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 17, 2007 With the sound being "pinging", I'll bet you do have something that fell into the "squirrel" cage.Simply remove the 3 bolts holding the fan motor to the fan motor housing and you should be able to withdraw the cage from the housing. Then see what fell in, either into the cage, or on the "floor" of the housing.Don't think it's your fan motor dying, more than likely it is a twig, small stone, bit of rust/metal or even the plumber's putty that connects the air inlet to the cowl inlet.HTHE Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
