Looking for Lexan windshield...

Hi, new here... I bought an old 260z ITS car, in the process of making it an open track car. I took the windshield out while stripping the interior, broke it in the process (didn't know they popped that easy!). So before I buy a replacement, wondering if anyone's got tips on finding/fitting a lexan replacement. I did a search, found some old post to 2002 about someone selling some of these, but none since... any tips?

From what I've gathered over the years, people usually form their own windshield from a flat piece of lexan. Lexan scratches very easily and if you should somehow break it, the pieces would be pretty jagged and dangerous. It's shatter resistant but not shatter proof.

Try www.racing-shields.com. I spoke with them last year at the PRI show. They were going to make some if there was enough need. Their w/s are fogproof and scratch resistant. I will be needing one soon, as my prod car is almost done!! Maybe if there is enough interest we can get a group buy together!! The people there seemed very nice. They make w/s for many different racecars. I know Don Ahrens was looking for one earlier this year and he was going to contact them, don't know if he did or not!!

The Primadonna uses a Plexiglass (race glass) front windshield. This picture should illustrate that the stock top, and side mounting location is used, but a new lower mounting area was created. Changing the lower mounting area to a point about 10.5 inches in front of stock lower center mounting location. The new mounting location dramatically softens the rake of the windshield.

When I did the restoration i bought a new sheet of race glass, and used the old plexi as the template for the new. Two of use did the install foarming the sheet as we went, and it turned out great. I am not saying it was easy, it was a bit of a fight at times.

Now because of the configuration, the Primadonna only used about 2/3rd's of a stock gasket. The front leading edge used a different gasket.

That being said, I do not know what the degree of difficulty would be had when mounting in the stock location, with a complete gasket. I think that I would want to get the plexi in the sun for awhile before I attempted it though.

This is the reply I got from Stephanie today...

Mr. Hunter,

We do not have that windshield. If I could get the glass, I could try and fit it to a mold. If I can get it from my glass guy it will be a $75.00 fee. If you have one, as long as it has it shape I could use it. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Thank you,

Stephanie

perhaps is a few people called it might make it seem more urgent to get one made? :)
