Anyone have a Roadster as well as a Z?

Yeah, yeah. This is the Z website, I know.

I am wondering if anyone here has a 1500, 1600, or 2000 Roadster as well as a Z. I have always wanted to build a stable of old Datsun's and I have the opportunity to pick up a solid '69 1600 for $900. It needs a ton of work but seems to be pretty much rust free and original equipment.

Anyone have a Roadster and if so how would you compare working on it to your Z? I am guessing that parts are going to be much more expensive and harder to find for the 1600.

Anyone!?

Close... I have a Triumph Spitfire that I restored from frame up.

Lovely... breaks down a lot, as per usual British specs.

Ionman, if u can pick up '69 1600 for $900US:classic: I'd go for it!

They are quite a different car to a Z or any unibody car for that matter. They have a separate chassis.

Parts for the R type 1600 could be hard to come by but something will fit :devious:

If it has little rust, that is a bonus:classic:

I'm looking at a '65 1500 with all original parts that has been in storage for 22 years:love:

A little more than $900 though:tapemouth.

If I can swing it my collection will then consist of:-

:love: a '65 1500 roadster

:love: a '71 1600(510) 4 door - bought new in 1/71 - daily driver

:love: a '73 240Z undergoing a ground up resto - summer special

:love: a '72 510 2 door rolling sHELL in storage - Import from USA

I intend to keep the roadster parts for originality but it will probably score a CA18 motor, DOHC 1800 EFI.

:ermm:

BTW I have copies of the factory Nissan Service Manual for both the SPL310 (1500) and SPL311(1600).

Anyone interested in a copy?

I have a 1970 SRL (2000) Roadster and I love it.

Parts are no worst than 240 restoration parts. The R-16 (1600) motor was far more plentiful than the U-20, so engine parts are still avialible. You'll find great vendors for the roadsters who are making and developing reproduction parts to keep us running for some tme to come.

If you get the roadster, join the roadster mailing list. you'll find lots of info at http://www.311s.org/

Be sure to register you car at that site as well.

Yep

I have a 69 model Sports 2000 which I race, here in Australia you are looking at around $5K AUD for a hack and up to $15K for a good clean car so $900 US sounds rediculously cheap to us!.

Parts over here are almost non existant, particularly body panels so restorations are hugely expensive.

At first I wondered why a 10 year old thread would be revived, but those pictures are choice material!!!

I have one of each, a low windshield 67 1600 and a High Windshield 68 2000 (currently in work), and I can see that you've put in some excellent time to getting things right.

One thing I note, the block is missing the Coolant Drain Valve (Left side towards the back, just a plug of some sort), and even though it may seem inadequate, it is convenient when you need it.

Unfortunately, once you have everything put back together, the engine bay is extremely tight to work in, and you'll only be able to get a wrench into that area of the block if you remove the splash panel on the left inner fender support.
