October 30, 200717 yr comment_226674 Can-o-worms with that question. What is the intended purpose of your Z? Around town driver? Racer? AutoX?For most purposes, the standard brakes are just dandy. For higher performance applications like autox or racing, you'll need to go a bit deeper, like with drilled/slotted rotors, disc brake rear conversion, different pads, etc.More information is needed before information can be given. October 30, 200717 yr comment_226684 There are rear disc conversions which takes parts from a handful of different vehicles and throws them in the back. The Z Store has the cheap ones for $350 without 4 SS brake lines or rotors, but if you wait for one to come around on ebay, for the same price you get the rotors, calipers, pads and 4 brake lines. Then you have to get some performance 240z rotors up front and upgrade to the 1984 Toyota 4x4 Calipers. There are non-vented and then the more expensive Vented calipers. I got mine brand new for a steal on ebay. For front rotors I would go with just some slotted rotors. They give you more braking surface then cross-drilled rotors and are able to still help keep the brakes cooler just like the cross-drilled. In the rear, I would just go with whatever the kit gives you and then just replace them with oem rotors when it is time. The car is so light, and the upgraded braking power is so huge, that it is just a waste of money on high dollared rotors. Then just get your brake cylinders and salvo replaced under the hood if you have extra cash.
